Miami’s Katy Dolesh and Akron’s Jeny Wolbert have received the honors of Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the Mid-American Conference. Dolesh picked up the offensive honors with three goals and an assist in Miami’s two 4-0 victories. Wolbert, a senior at Akron, received the defensive recognition following a nine save performance against #31 ranked Michigan.
Dolesh led Miami to a 2-0 start on the season as she totaled seven points in the two victories, with three goals and an assist. She scored two goals in Friday’s 4-0 season-opening win over IUPUI, which marked just her second career multi-goal game. Dolesh then added a goal and an assist in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Morehead State, as she assisted on the game-winning goal while converting a penalty kick for her goal. She scored on three of her five shots over the weekend, including making all three that she put on goal.
Wolbert recorded nine saves to shutout Michigan in Akron's 1-0 win Friday in Ann Arbor. The shutout is the 11th in Wolbert's Akron career. The senior from Kitchenor, Ontario, tallied a trio of saves in the first half, before coming up with six big stops after halftime to help preserve the Akron one-goal advantage. The win over the Wolverines (ranked #31 in the first TopDrawer Soccer NCAA tournament Projections) moved Akron's all-time record in season-openers to 10-0-1.

Junior, West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West)Junior midfielder Maggie Brown led the Cardinals to a second place finish in the Western Kentucky Tournament as she earned All-Tournament accolades on the weekend … Brown led the Cardinals and was tied for the tournament lead with two goals on the weekend as she scored one against Murray State and one against Western Kentucky … She entered the weekend with just three career goals, including just one goal last season.
Skylar Chew, Ball State, Defense
Junior, Mason, Ohio (Mason)Junior defender Skylar Chew earned All-Tournament honors at the Western Kentucky Tournament as she helped lead the Cardinals to a second place finish on the weekend … Chew guided the Cardinals to a shutout victory over Murray State both defensively as well as offensively … She anchored the back line that posted its first shutout of the season and also scored her first goal of the season and the first of her career.
Jessacca Gironda, Kent State, Foward
Sophomore, Akron, Ohio (Hoban)Gironda had a foot on all three of Kent State's goals in the Golden Flashes' 3-2 come-from-behind win over Cleveland State Aug. 19. Then, against St. Bonaventure Aug. 21, Gironda led Kent State with six shots, including four shots on goal, to help wear down the Bonnies resulting in a 1-0 victory for the Golden Flashes.
Kelly Sherwood, Kent State, Goalkeeper
Senior, Strongsville, Ohio (Strongsville)Sherwood made three saves in Kent State's 1-0 shutout victory over St. Bonaventure Aug. 21. It was Kent State's first shutout since the 2009 season. Then, in the team's 3-2 win over Cleveland State, Sherwood made four saves, including three in the second half.
Kyarah Foushee, Akron, Forward
Sophomore, Union, New Jersey (Union H.S.)Kyarah scored the game-winning goal in Akron's 1-0 win at Michigan on Friday. The sophomore striker headed home a Kelly DeNiro corner from just in front of goal in the 39th minute to propel the Zips to their first-ever win over a Big Ten program. Foushee finished the game with two shots on target and the goal was the first of her career. Freshman, Perrysburg, Ohio (Perrysburg HS)Scored her first collegiate goal in BGSU’s match at Illinois State Sunday afternoon … had hit the post with a shot in the Falcons’ other game, at Loyola (Ill.) … the only freshman to start both games for BGSU.

R-Junior, Kettering, Ohio (Archbishop Alter)Played every minute of both matches over the weekend … had 14 saves and a goals-against average of 3.00 … played all 90 minutes of a match for the first time in her career in Friday’s 1-0 loss at Loyola (Ill.) … made three saves, including two spectacular stops within the game’s first 15 minutes … the only goal she allowed was an ‘own goal’ when a Loyola free kick glanced off the head of a BGSU defender and into the net … in Sunday’s Illinois State match, made a career-high 11 saves, including several difficult saves in each half … nearly doubled her previous career high for saves (6) … after just two matches, has set a personal best for minutes played in a season (180:00) … had 14 saves in the weekend’s two matches, after recording a total of 18 in her first two seasons combined.
Autumn Hawkins, Central Michigan, Forward
Junior, Bloomington, Indiana (Bloomington HS)After missing nearly all of 2010 with an ankle injury, 2009 MAC All-Freshman Team selection Autumn Hawkins returned to the pitch Friday, scoring the lone goal for Central Michigan en route to its 1-0 win over the University of Detroit. Hawkins, who finished with a team high two shots, scored her second career goal in the 28th minute, firing a shot just inside the right post on a cross from Ashley Mejilla. It was the junior's first goal since Oct. 2, 2009.
Stefanie Turner, Central Michigan, Goalkeeper
Junior, Livonia, Michigan (Livonia Churchill HS)Junior Stefanie Turner earned her first career shutout on Friday, stopping the only shot she faced versus Detroit. Turner played 90 minutes between the pipes for just the the second time in her career. Despite only facing one shot, the junior made several key plays on Titan set pieces and came away with deflections on crosses and corner kicks all afternoon long.
Haley Clark, Miami, Defense
Senior, London, Ontario, Canada (Central S.S.)Clark anchored Miami’s defense over the weekend, leading the RedHawks to a pair of shutouts and a 2-0 start on the season while playing center back. It is just the second time in program history Miami has opened the season with back-to-back shutouts. With Clark leading the way, Miami allowed just nine shots in the two games combined while only four of the shots actually were on frame. Clark and the ‘Hawks held IUPUI to just three shots total and one on goal while Morehead State managed just six shots on Sunday with only three on target. Miami allowed just three corner kicks combined in the two games as well. Head coach Bobby Kramig praised Clark’s play after Sunday’s win, saying “Haley Clark has been superb. Not only has she been a great player in the back but you also get great leadership. She has really stepped up, especially for someone who hasn't played center back in a couple of years."

Sophomore, Burlington, Ontairo, Canada (Notre Dame Catholic)Cutaia netted the game-tying goal with 10 seconds remaining in regulation against Pitt last Friday. She also added an assist on the game's opening goal to cap-off a three-point evening. The Eagles and Panthers played to a 2-2 tie.
Rachel Rye, Eastern Michigan, Goalkeeper
Sophomore, Dearborn, Michigan (Edsel Ford)Rye made 10 saves for the Eagles Friday evening in the season opener at Pitt. She made a pair of critical saves in the first overtime to keep the score knotted at two apiece.
