AKRON, Ohio -
The pairings for the 2011 Preseason WNIT were announced on Tuesday, and The University of Akron women's basketball team will play at Notre Dame on Friday, Nov. 11 in the opening round. The Fighting Irish posted a 31-8 record last season and made it all the way to the national championship game before falling to Texas A&M.
"We are very excited to be participating in the Preseason WNIT," said head coach Jodi Kest. "Playing Notre Dame in the first round will obviously be a challenge for us. We will find out very early in the season a lot about ourselves."
The Preseason WNIT features a three-game guarantee format. The event opens Nov. 11 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 13-14 and sites will be announced following the first round results. Semifinals will be Nov. 16-17, and the championship game is set for Sunday, Nov. 20. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 18-19.
