MAC Announces Season's First Softball Players & Pitchers of the Week

West Division Player of the Week
Dani Parrish, Northern Illinois, Jr., CF, Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield
Dani Parrish was the offensive catalyst for the Huskies in the Texas Classic in Austin, Texas over the weekend, going 6-for-18 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Parrish, who started all five games of the tournament in center field, went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in a 3-2 loss to Tulsa in the season opener. She followed that performance with a 3-for-4 effort against Louisville. She had two stolen bases and scored NIU's lone run in a 6-1 defeat to the Cardinals. In an 8-4 loss to No. 15 Texas, Parrish went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. She leads the teams in RBIs with three, hits with six and stolen bases with two.

East Division Player of the Week
Alex Feltes, Akron, Sr., 3B, Rocky River, Ohio (Magnificat)
Akron senior Alex Feltes got off to a hot start at the Southeastern Louisiana Lions Classic in the Zips' opening weekend, starting every game at third base. Feltes helped Akron go 3-2 in the tournament by hitting a team-high .563 (9-for-16) with two doubles and a triple. She drove in six total runs and scored three herself, as well as stole two bases. With runners in scoring position, she hit 4-for-5, playing a key role in Akron's run production.

West Division Pitcher of the Week
Kayla Houston, Western Michigan, Jr., San Diego, Calif./Valhalla
Houston led the way in the circle with four appearances and 21 strikeouts. She had a career high 10 strikeouts against Utah.

East Division Pitcher of the Week
Heather Bauer, Akron, Sr., Medina, Ohio (Highland/Wright State)
Akron senior Heather Bauer pitched a complete game in Akron's 4-3 win over Jackson State, allowing just five hits and three runs while striking out six and walking none. She started the rest of the Zips' games in the field and added a double and a home run at the plate, totaling three RBI, scoring four runs, and slugging .467.

Additional Nominees
Hannah Fulk, Bowling Green, So., SS, Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale

Sophomore shortstop Hannah Fulk was named to the LSU Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team after hitting .538 with a .692 slugging percentage in five games this weekend. Fulk was 7-for-13 and had at least one hit in every game, while adding a pair of walks for a .563 on-base percentage. Fulk also had two of the team's five doubles on the weekend and drove in a run. She was also perfect on 19 chances in the field (8 putouts/11 assists).

Mary Holt, Kent State, Jr., SS, Providence, R.I./LaSalle Academy
Holt hit home runs in each of her first three games of the season at the Phoenix Leadoff Classic. In four games , she hit .385 with six runs batted in. She walked twice, carrying a .467 on-base percentage and a 1.077 slugging percentage. Defensively, Holt helped turn three different double plays as the Golden Flashes claimed victories over Youngstown State and Elon.

Markie Pozzuto, Kent State, Sr., Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood
Pozzuto earned victories in each of her two appearances. The only run she allowed against Youngstown State came in the fourth inning. She did not allow a run against Elon until the fifth inning.

Michelle Bendewald, Western Michigan, SR., SS, St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph
Michelle Bendewald led the team with a .250 batting average during the opening weekend, going 4-for-16 with a double, one RBI and a run scored.
