Kent State Claims 12th Straight MAC Women's Golf Championship

FISHERS, IN - Kent State captured the 2010 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship on Sunday with a team score of 28-over par 892. It was the 12th straight conference title for the Golden Flashes and KSU remains the only school that has won the league's women's golf crown.

Ball State finished as tournament runner-up at 47-over par 911 (301-304-306), edging Toledo (307-303-302=912) by a stroke. Rounding out the top five were Eastern Michigan (926) and Akron (929).

Kent State junior Martina Gavier captured medalist honors with a one-over par 217 (72-73-72) marking the fifth straight year a KSU golfer has won the individual title. Gavier finished three strokes ahead of Ball State junior Brittany Kelly (76-74-71), who carded a one-under 71 for the low round of the day.

The tournament was hosted by the University of Toledo at the par-72, 6,037-yard Hawthorns Golf & Country Club.
