MAC Announces Wrestlers of the Week

MAC Wrestler of the Week (two honorees)

 

Trevor Stewart ? Central Michigan

Senior - 165 lbs.

Canton, Mich. (Detroit Catholic Central HS)

Stewart went a perfect 4-0 to help lead CMU to the Virginia Duals title last weekend. Stewart, ranked 10th nationally entering the tournament, posted an 11-4 decision over Liberty's Brad Clark, a 4-2 decision over Old Dominion's Chris Brown, a 5-3 decision over Oklahoma State's No. 12-ranked Brandon Mason, and a 9-2 decision over Lehigh's No. 16-ranked Mike Galante. Stewart is now 9-1 in duals this season and has won a team-leading 16 matches overall. His 9-1 duals mark also is the best on the team.

 

Dustin Kilgore ? Kent State
Redshirt freshman ? 184 lbs.
Berea, Ohio (Berea HS)

Kilgore improved his team-best record to 21-3 on the year with a perfect 4-0 record at the Virginia Duals this past weekend. After a decision in Friday's first match against David Thompson of Bucknell 6-3, Kilgore defeated eighth-ranked David Craig of Lehigh 8-4 in the nightcap. Saturday, he blasted ninth-ranked Rocco Caponi of Virginia 23-9. The win over Caponi avenged Kilgore's only loss in open tournaments last season (27-1 last season). In his final two matches, Kilgore received a major decision over Penn's Colin Hitschler and won by technical fall over Derek Coffey of Old Dominion 17-1. For the season, Kilgore leads the team with seven falls and also has four tech falls and three major decisions.

Sean Clair- Eastern Michigan

R-Junior - Turtlecreek, Pa. (Plum HS)

Clair won a 13-1 major decision against Cleveland State's Lawrence Cavello Sunday, Jan. 11, at Bowen Field House in Ypsilanti, Mich. Clair opened up an early 2-0 lead with a takedown. A near-fall to conclude the first period gave Clair three points and a 5-0 lead. After a scoreless second period, Clair extended his lead to 7-0 with a reversal early in the third. Cavello would end any shutout hopes with a single point, but Clair shored up a major decision with a takedown and near fall. The Eagles lead 10-4 after three matches.Clair has won 6-of-8 matches in a recent stretch to improve his season record to 13-7.

 

Clay Tucker ? Ohio

Junior - Martins Ferry, Ohio (Martins Ferry HS)

157 lbs.

In the Virginia Duals, junior Clay Tucker posted a 2-1 record to improve to 15-10 on the season at 157 pounds. Tucker fell to Sean Bilodeau of eighth-ranked Lehigh in the opening round by a score of 5-4. He then defeated Tyler Riccio of Bucknell by major decision, 9-1, and Vince Salminen of North Dakota State by technical fall, 18-3. He is now 7-3 in duals meets for the season.
