MAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Kim Lorentz, Akron, Sophomore, Mayfield, Ohio (Mayfield)  

Tommy Evans Invitational (5K)

Time: 18:04    

Won the event with a course record time of 18:04 and was 50 seconds ahead of second place. Akron had the top four finishers to win the event with a dominating score of 17.


MAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Pat Sovacool, Miami, Senior, Lakewood, Ohio (St. Ignatius) 

Great American Legends Invitational at Purdue (8K)

Time: 25:55.9 

Sovacool won his second-straight Great American Legends Invitational with a time of 25:55.89, just edging teammate Kevin Silver for individual honors. Sovacool led the RedHawks to a win, defeating Ohio State, Butler, Central Michigan, Purdue and Taylor. Sovacool had now won the first two meets of the season and has won five straight races that were not conference championships or NCAA regional, national, or pre-nationals, over the past two years.


Other Women’s Nominees

Vanessa Gilbert, Ball State, Senior, Kettering, Ohio (Fairmont)        

Great American Legends (5K)

Time:    19:13.4           

Gilbert helped guide the Ball State cross country team to a third-place showing at the Great American Legends 5K Run hosted by Purdue, with a sixth-place time of 19:13.37.


Jessica Schultz, Buffalo, Senior, Rochester, NY (Eastridge)

Tommy Evans Invite (5K)

Time: 19:06    

Schultz ran a very strong race, placing 5th overall at the Tommy Evans Invite and led her team to a second place finish.  Jessica improved her time by over 1:30 from last year's race.  She has started the season very strong.


Rachel Hollinger-Janzen, Eastern Michigan, Freshman, Goshen, Ind. (Goshen)

Titan Invitational (5K)

Time: 19:06

As a freshman, she led the Eagles to a sixth place team finish at the Titan Invitational. She finished the 5K course in a time of 19:06, good for 24th place.


Jill Odom, Western Michigan, Senior, Highland, Ind.  

Crusader Invitational (5K)

Time: 19:00    

Odom finished in 10th place in the first meet she had run in over two years, after sitting out the previous season due to injury.


Other Men’s Nominees

Ryan Bloom, Buffalo, Sophomore, Rochester, NY (Spencerport)

Tommy Evans Invite (4 Mile)

Time: 21:06    

Bloom led his UB teammates to a team win at the Tommy Evans Invite.  He placed 3rd overall, and improved his time from the previous year by 29 seconds.  This is Ryan's highest placement in his college career. 


Sammy Kiprotich, Central Michigan, Sophomore, Eldoret, Kenya (Tambach)

Great American Legends at Purdue (8K)

Time: 26:01:00           

Kiprotich placed third overall at the Great American Legends meet at Purdue.  He ran the 8K in 26:01.


Luke Chrusciel, Eastern Michigan, Senior

Titan Invitational (4 mile)

Time: 20:24

Chrusciel led the Eagles for the first time in his career, finishing a life-time best third place, running the four-mile course in 20:24.
