University of Toledo senior co-captain Kylie Gamelier (Cranberry Township, PA) qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100 breaststroke at a meet in Cleveland last Saturday. Gamelier will swim at the trials on Monday, June 30 at the Quest Center in Omaha, NE.

Gamelier is the first female Rocket swimmer to qualify for the Olympic Trials.

“I’m really excited about going to the Olympic Trials,” said Gamelier. “I didn’t expect to qualify. It’s probably the biggest accomplishment of my swimming career. I’m glad my mom and dad were there to see it.”

Gamelier’s time of 1:11.36 surpassed her previous personal best of 1:17.11 by almost six seconds, an incredible improvement for a 100-meter event. The cutoff to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials is 1:12.59. Gamelier said she had been training with her club team in Pittsburgh since the end of the school year and had been working to improve her technique. “I had been lifting my head too early. Changing that made a big difference,” she said.
