MAC Announces Women's Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team

Updated 6/14/2011
CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2011 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC team Tuesday, as voted on by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. A total of 28 student-athletes were named to the team.

A number of athletes named to this year's squad recently wrapped up competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. No fewer than eight of the 28 student-athletes comprising the team were in Des Moines last week for the final event of the 2011 track and field season. That list includes Katherine Lee and Valerie Wert of Akron, Becky O'Brien of Buffalo, Jessica Hemingway of Eastern Michigan, Diana Dumitrescu of Kent State, Rachel Patterson of Miami, Annie Beecham of Ohio and Iris Campbell of Western Michigan.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
