Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2010 Academic All-MAC Women's Swimming & Diving team today, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.  A total of 32 student-athletes from all eight schools were named to the team.

Three seniors were honored for the third time in their career-Stephanie Zielinski of Akron, Meili Carpenter of Buffalo and Chelsey Bower of Ohio.  Five other selections are repeat performers from last year's academic squad-Sam Palma (Buffalo), Stephanie Cholyk (Eastern Michigan), Megan Brunn (Miami), Rachel Heim (Ohio) and Amanda Thompson (Toledo).

MAC champion Toledo led the way with seven selections, while Miami placed five honorees on the 2010 academic team.  Representing the Rockets, in addition to Thompson, are Ashley Cusack, Jacy Dyer, Megan Friedli, Laura Heckroth, Claire Leichty and Louise Smyth.  For the RedHawks, Brunn was joined by teammates Miranda Kaltenborn, Rachel Smith, Kelsey Vehr and Allison Way.

Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Ohio garnered four honorees each with Kendall Karchner, Leeanna Hoover and Madelyn Robinson joining the Zips Zielinski; while Emily Karwoski, Maria Gramelspacher, Sarah Kehe and Catherine Ingram represented the Cardinals; representing Eastern Michigan are Stephanie Cholyk, Sarah Maraskine, Samantha Partridge and Kristin Roach; and joining Bower with the Bobcats are Caitlin Drozin, Rachel Heim and Stella Johnson.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics.  To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.  First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.  Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
