Akron's Stephanie Zielinski Awarded MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week 
Nov. 4, 2008 
Stephanie Zielinski - Akron 
Junior - Philadelphia, PA (Archbishop Ryan HS) 
Zielinski won four individual events and was a part of four relays (one first, 
three second place finishes) on the week. In the Akron win over Ohio, Stephanie 
Zielinski finished first in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events (23.67, 
52.47). Zielinski helped the 800-yard freestyle relay team to a 1st place finish 
over Ohio while assisting the 200-yard medley relay team to a 2nd place finish 
(7:43.86).   Zielinski added two additional 1st place finishes in the 50-yard 
and 100-yard freestyles (23.75, 52.14) in the loss to Miami. She also assisted 
with 2nd place finishes in both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay 
events (1:48.52, 3:34.66).  
Additional Women’s Nominations
Emily Haifley - Ball State        
Freshman - Roanoke, Ind./Homestead 
Haifley picked up a pair of breaststroke wins in the Cardinals meet versus 
Bowling Green, posting a time of 1:06.49 in the 100 breaststroke and a clocking 
of 2:25.23 in the 200 breaststroke. At Toledo, Haifley swam to a second-place 
time of 1:06.95 in the 100 breaststroke. She was also a member of three relay 
squads in the two meets. 
Vicky Yu - Bowling Green 
Freshman - Shenyang, China/Shenyang Foreign Service 
In her first MAC meet of the season against EMU she took two first place 
finishes (200 freestyle and 400 IM) and two-second place finishes (100 butterfly 
and 800 freestyle relay).  The following day in her second meet of the season 
against BSU she took three first place finishes (200 butterfly, 100 freestyle 
and 100 butterfly).  Her time of 2:05.48 in the 200-yard butterfly is BGSU's 6th 
best time ever, her time of 57.21 in the 100 yard butterfly as well as her time 
of 4:32.49 in the 400 IM are both the seventh best times ever recorded for BGSU 
Brynn Marecki - Buffalo 
Freshman - Livonia, MI/Livonia Stevenson 
Took first place in 4 events 100 Breaststroke vs. Miami (1:04.54), new school 
record 200 breaststroke vs. Miami (2:19.56) 100 breaststroke vs. Ohio (1:04.84) 
200 breaststroke vs. Ohio (2:20.70) also part of the 1-2-3 200 IM trio that 
helped Buffalo clinch the win over Ohio-(3rd place 2:10.90) 
Alissa Ricard - Eastern Michigan 
Senior - Tucson, Ariz-Catalina Foothills 
Won four individual events over the weekend, helping the Eagles split weekend 
action. She won the 50 and 100 free races against Bowling Green while capturing 
both the 100 and 200 free against Toledo. In addition to her individual wins, 
she was part of the second place 200 medley relay team against BG. Versus 
Toledo, she helped the 200 medley relay team and 400 free relay team to 
runner-up finishes. 
Malarie Schmidt - Miami 
Senior - Batavia, IL/Rosary 
MALARIE SCHMIDT won two individual events at Buffalo on 10/31/08, taking the 100 
backstroke (:57.90) and the 400 IM (4:30.69). ,,, she then took first in the 100 
backstroke and swam the opening leg of the 200 medley relay vs. Akron on 
Rachel Heim - Ohio 
Sophomore - San Diego, Calif./Horizion HS 
Rachel won the 100 butterfly in 57.73 and swam the third leg of Ohio's 
first-place 200 medley relay team against Akron on Friday, Oct. 31. On Saturday, 
Nov. 1 at Buffalo, Heim won the 100 butterfly again, this time in 57.16, the 
second-fastest time in the MAC this season, and the 100 backstroke in 58.17, the 
best time in the MAC this season. The Olympic Trials qualifier also swam the 
anchor leg of Ohio's 400 freestyle relay team that tied Buffalo for first place. 
Rachel finished second at Buffalo in the 100 freestyle in a personal-best time 
of 52.39, the third-fastest time in the MAC this season. She swam a 25.45 split 
in the 100 free, which would be the fourth-fastest time in the 50 free by a MAC 
swimmer this year. 
Meghan Reissig - Toledo 
Junior - Rochester, NY/Victor 
Posted four first-place finishes in the Rockets' two dual meets against MAC 
opponents over the weekend... Won the 100 Backstroke (59.46) and the 400 IM 
(4:31.18) against Ball State while also posting a second-place finish in the 200 
Breaststroke (2:27.71)... Had first-place times against EMU in the 200 
Backstroke (2:07.07) and the 200 IM (2:08.57) along with a second-place finish 
in the 100 Backstroke (58.87)
