Additional Golfer of the Week Nominees

Stephany Fleet, Eastern Michigan, Jr., Dewitt. Mich./Dewitt

Behind the solid play of senior Catherine Fortin and junior Stephany Fleet, the Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team finished in 10th place at the UALR Golf Classic with a 54-hole mark of 943 (323-305-315) Tuesday, March 25, here at the Diamante Country Club. The duo of Fortin and Fleet finished deadlocked for seventh with a two-day total of 225, making EMU one of just three teams in the tournament to boast a pair of top 10 finishers. After struggling in the first round with an 80, Fleet found her groove and notched back-to-back rounds of 72 and 73 to finish with a 225. The tie for seventh was her fifth top 10 showing during the 2007-08 campaign and the 13th during her career.

Martina Gavier, Kent State, Fr., Cordoba, Argentina/Academia Arguello

Gavier helped the Flashes tie top-ranked Duke for fifth place at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The 18-team field featured 15 top schools in the top 40, including four top 10 programs. She posted rounds of 74 and 73 to lead KSU in the second and third rounds, respectively, en route to her fourth top 10 finish of the season. Gavier’s 75.6 scoring average is third on the team.

Laura Bavaird, Western Michigan, Sr., Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile

Laura Bavaird registered her fourth to-five finish of the season, finishing in a tie for fourth place at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate hosted by the College of William & Mary. Bavaird improved on her first-round score by one stroke to card a 4-over par 76 on Sunday. She led the field of 113 golfers in total pars (23). Bavaird also ranked fourth in par 4 scoring (4.20) and tied for fifth in par 5 scoring (5.13), playing the four par 5's more than half a stroke lower (0.54) than what the holes averaged for the week (5.67).
