Eastern Michigan Men, Ohio Women Selected To Win MAC Cross Country Titles

CLEVELAND, Ohio ? The Eastern Michigan men’s and Ohio women’s cross country teams were picked to win their respective titles at the 2007 MAC Cross Country championship as voted on by the league’s head cross country coaches.

 

Eastern Michigan is coming of it’s second consecutive men’s cross country team title after racking up 23 points last season at the MAC Championship. The Eagles defeated second place Central Michigan by 41 points while claiming five of the top ten individual finishes. 2006 MAC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year John Goodridge will welcome back four All-MAC honorees in Josh Karanja (first-team), David Brent (first-team), Josh Perrin (first-team), Curtis Vollmar (second-team).

 

Kent State was picked to finish second behind Eastern Michigan. The Golden Flashes were followed by Central Michigan in third, while Miami, Ohio and Akron rounded out the top six spots in the poll. Bowling Green, Buffalo and Toledo rounded out the men’s poll.

 

Ohio and 2006 Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year Clay Calkins will look to win a league-best tenth women’s team title this season. Last season at the MAC Championship, the Bobcats placed their five scorers among the top 15 placers en route to winning the Championship. Among those returning are All-MAC first-team honoree and individual winner of the 2006 Championship, Carime Reinhart. Reinhart finished first among 101 women runners and won the women's individual 5K title in 20:02.90. Also returning this season will be All-MAC first-team honoree Kari Summers and All-MAC second-team honoree Annie Beecham.

 

Akron was picked to finish in second place on the women’s side, while Bowling Green was tabbed to finish third. Toledo, Ball State and Miami filled out the top six spots in this year’s poll. Western Michigan (seventh), Central Michigan (eighth), Eastern Michigan (ninth), Kent State (10th), Buffalo (11th) and Northern Illinois (12th) rounded out the women’s poll.

 

The 2007 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Central Michigan University, will be held on Saturday, October 27.
