MAC Announces Men's Scholar Athlete of the Week.

David Kool (Sr., 3.43, physical education, Grand Rapids, Mich.) named 2010 MAC Player of the Year by the MAC News Media Association and Third Team Mid-Major All-American by CollegHoops.net during the week, averaged 32.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game to lead Western Michigan to the MAC Tournament semifinals at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Kool started the week by scoring 24 of his 26 points in the second half to lead the No. 7 seed Broncos past No. 2 seed Central Michigan, 69-60, after trailing by 14 points with 13:42 remaining in the game. Kool also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kool came back in the semifinals and scored a career-high 39 points on 12-of-21 shooting, including five three-pointers, and 10-of-10 free throws. Kool also had six rebounds and three steals against No. 3 seed Akron. The 2010 All-MAC Tournament Team honoree finished his career sixth all-time in scoring in the MAC with 2,122 points and he is currently fourth in the NCAA with 714 points and 209 made free throws, which are both WMU single-season school records.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

Eastern Michigan: Corey Chaffins (baseball, Jr., 3.42, biology, New London, Ohio) led the Eagles to their only win this past weekend versus Jacksonville State University, March 12, as he tied his season-high in strikeouts with eight over six innings of work to help EMU capture a 10-8 win over the Gamecocks. Chaffins has a 2-0 record on the mound this season and has tallied 24 strikeouts in 26.2 innings pitched.*

Northern Illinois: Troy White (baseball, So., 3.64, business administration, Chicago, Ill.) started all three games at third base in NIU's series against UC-Santa Barbara. A business administration major with a 3.643 grade point average, White went 4-for-12 from the plate (.333). His best day came in game three, where he went 2-of-4 (.500) with one RBI. White also went 1-for-3 (.333) in the second game of a Friday double-header.
