MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Katia Babina, Bowling Green - Senior, Glenview, Ill. (Glenbrook South High School)

Senior Katia Babina picked up a pair of wins as the Falcons downed Cleveland State in last week's lone match as Babina topped Maria Lazaris in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at the second singles flight.  Babina teamed with freshman Jade Johnson for an 8-4 win at the second doubles flight and is now 6-4 in dual-match singles play and 12-8 this season overall.  In doubles, Babina has teamed with Johnson for a 7-3 record in duals.  Babina has a total of 24 combined wins this season, third most on the team, and has moved into 16th place in school history with 58 career singles wins.  Babina moved into sole possession of 12th place on the doubles list with 61 wins and is 17th on the Bowling Green combined career wins list with 119 victories.

Kylee Johnson, Ball State - Sophomore, Indianapolis, Ind. (Lawrence North High School)

Sophomore Kylee Johnson helped the Cardinals even their overall record to 5-5 on the season with a 6-1 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay last Friday.  In doubles action, Johnson paired up with Katherine Rist to defeat Jennifer Bradfield and Morgan Weuve 8-4 at the No. 2 slot.  Johnson then earned a two set 6-3, 6-3 victory over Weuve in No. 3 singles action.

Silvia Carvajal, Toledo - Freshman, Medellin, Colombia

Freshman Silvia Carvajal earned two victories as the Toledo women's tennis team won its lone match of the week, a 5-2 victory against Cleveland State. Carvajal scored a 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 win against the Vikings' Charlotte Gibbons, a senior who has twice earned all-Horizon League accolades. In her doubles match, Carvajal teamed with Melissa Reynolds and cruised to an 8-4 victory.

Amanda Moccia, Western Michigan - Junior, Livonia, Mich. (Stevenson High School)

Junior Amanda Moccia overcame a one-set deficit to defeat Amy Barton 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles in the last match off the court clinching victory at Michigan State, 4-3. Moccia's victory broke a three-all stalemate and gave the Broncos their fourth consecutive victory against their Big Ten in-state rival.
