Updated 4/28/2011

The New York Jets selected Temple junior defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Wilkerson was the recipient of Temple's defensive most valuable player honor in 2010. A two-time first-team All-MAC honoree, Wilkerson was the team captain and started all 12 games at defensive tackle. He finished third in tackles with 70 and led the Owls with 13.0 TFL and 9.5 sacks and was named to the Outland Trophy Watch List.

Wilkerson was one of 12 defensive linemen selected in the first round, an NFL record. The 2011 NFL Draft is April 28-30 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. It will be televised by ESPN and the NFL Network.

The last MAC student-athlete selected in the first round was Northern Illinois DE Larry English in 2009, selected 16th overall by the San Diego Chargers.
