MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

Rachel Heim, Ohio - Junior, San Diego, Calif. (Horizon High School)

Junior Rachel Heim won all six events in which she swam this week, powering Ohio to dual meet victories over Marshall (165-104) and Miami (167.5-132.5). On Tuesday, Heim took first place in the 50 Free with a time of 24.07 in addition to swimming on the winning 200 Free Relay team that touched in 1:35.45. On Saturday against Miami, Heim placed first during all four events in which she competed--the 400 Medley Relay team took first with a season-best time of 3:47.66, currently second in the MAC; finished tied for first in the 100 Backstroke with a season-best 56.48, second in the MAC; grabbed the top spot in the 100 Butterfly; and touched first in the 200 IM with a career-best 2:07.05, which ranks in the top five in the MAC.

Jessica Ballard, Buffalo - Senior, Hilton Head, S.C. (Hilton Head High School)

Senior Jessica Ballard won the 200 IM (2:07.42) and was a member of the first-place 400 medley relay team (3:51.10) in Buffalo's win over Akron. Ballard's 200 IM was part of Buffalo's come back as the Bulls came from behind, winning the final two events to win their fifth straight meet.

Cathryn Collins, Akron - Senior, Hilton Head, S.C. (Hilton Head High School)

Senior Cathryn Collins won three races in last Friday's loss against Buffalo (158-140).  Collins was a constant for the Zips, delivering three key wins to keep the race within reach. Collins nabbed wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.06), 200-yard butterfly (2:06.38) and 500-yard freestyle (5:04.14) races also assisting on Akron's second place relay finish in the 400-yard medley relay (3:52.15).

Lisa Maertin, Ball State - Senior, New Lenox, Ill. (Lincoln Way-Central High School)

Senior diver Lisa Maertin led the Cardinals to four dual wins and a pair of 1-2-3 efforts by collecting first-place finishes on both the one-meter (250.55) and three-meter (255.60) diving boards in Sunday's five-team meet in Indianapolis. In Saturday's meet at Eastern Michigan, Maertin won the three-meter diving event (247.43), while placing second on the one-meter board (258.30).

Meg Richardson, Bowling Green - Senior, Springfield, Ohio (Springfield High School)

Senior Meg Richardson swam in her final home meet at Cooper Pool and was Bowling Green's lone swimmer to take a first-place finish at Friday's meet against Toledo.  Richardson sprinted to her first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle touching in at 24.01.  One event later, she was right back in the water for the 100-yard freestyle race, in which she posted a time of 52.10 for a second-place finish.  Richardson was also a member of the two top-placing Falcons' relay squads in both the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

Briana Emig, Eastern Michigan - Freshman, Sewickley, Pa. (Ambridge High School)

Freshman Briana Emig won five races over the weekend in two dual meet wins over Wayne State and Ball State last Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23. Emig took the 200-, 500-, and 1,000-yard freestyles in an impressive performance over Wayne State, her time of 10:08.62 in the 1,000 was her fastest of the season and second-fastest time in the MAC this year. Emig repeated as winner in the 200- and 1,000-yard frees in a MAC dual meet win over Ball State the next day.

Laura Lindsay, Toledo - Sophomore, Uniontown, Ohio (Green High School)

Sophomore Laura Lindsay claimed two individual event titles and was a member of the first-place 400-medley relay team as the Rockets defeated rival Bowling Green 158-99 to remain unbeaten in the MAC. For a second-consecutive meet, Lindsay set an NCAA "B" cut in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.46), nearly three-tenths of a second faster than her last mark. She is the lone MAC swimmer to set an NCAA qualifying time this season.  Lindsay also took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.42) and helped the medley relay team to a victory in a time of 3:49.88. For the season, Lindsay has competed 17 times between the 100 and 200 breaststroke and won 15 times.
