MAC Names Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Track

Ezekiel Porter ? Buffalo

Junior - Rochester, NY/East

Porter ran the second leg of the 4x100 relay to a school record and the opening leg of the 4x400 relay which set a season-best time at the Penn Relays. 4x100 relay IC4A final; 40.62; 2nd 4x400 relay; 3:13.53; 23rd of 80. School record and NCAA Regional qualifying time in the 4x100 relay, finishing second to East Carolina.

Matt Pfleger ? Kent State

Junior - Garrettsville, Ohio/James A. Garfield

At the Gina Relyas competed in the Hammer, 61.08 meters, 3rd place, and passed NCAA regional qualifying standard. He has topped the NCAA regional qualifying requirement five times this season.

Josh Karanja ? Eastern Michigan

Senior - Ottawa, Canada-Nepean

Karanja qualified for his third NCAA Regional event Saturday at the Hillsdale Relays, this time doing so in the 5,000 meters. His time of 14:11.05 was not only an NCAA mark but it leads the conference, is a career-best and ranks 11th all-time in school history. He has now qualified in the 1,500, steeplechase and 5,000-meters.

 

Pat Sovacool ? Miami

Senior - Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius

At the Penn Relays, 5000 meters -- 9th (14:06.09) to become a Regional qualifier. Ran the fastest 5,000 in the Mid-American Conference this year to finish ninth in the College Division Championship. Sovacool's mark is almost 5 seconds faster than the previous best.

Peter Bligh ? Buffalo

Sophomore- Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia

Bligh turned in a season-best performance with his finish in the high jump at the Hillsdale Gina Relays.  He jumped; 6-6.75 (2.00m); placing 7th of 13 scorers, 11 others eliminated with no height.

 

Jarid Pearson ? Eastern Michigan

Senior - Walled Lake, Mich.-Western

Pearson placed second in the shot put at the Hillsdale 'Gina' Relays, tossing 52-08.00.

 

Adam Ruiz ? Miami

Sophomore - Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah

At the Stan Lyons Invitational(Illinois, Xavier, Cincinnati) he competed in the Shot put, finishing 5th (16.15m/53-00.00). His throw was a personal best... it was also fourth-best in the MAC this year.
