MAC Announces Final Weekly Gymnastics Awards

Co-Gymnast of the Week:


Jill Kowalski
Kent State
Senior ● Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North

Senior Jill Kowalski had a pair of event wins against Eastern Michigan as Kent State posted their highest team total of the season (195.750) to finish the season 6-0 in conference dual meets this season. Kowalski received a career-high judges’ score of 9.875 to win on beam and matched a career-best on bars with a 9.850 routine. She is second in the conference on bars and beam with RQS scores of 9.800 and 9.795 respectively.


Leah Johnson
Northern Illinois
Junior ● Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South

Johnson scored a career high 39.125, the second-highest all-around score in the MAC this season, to take second place in the All-around at the State of Illinois Classic Saturday. Johnson placed third on the vault with a 9.800 and tied for second on the floor exercise after scoring 9.825 to earn all-state designation on both events as well as the all-around. She also scored a season-best 9.775 on the balance beam to tie for 7th.


Other Nominations:


Breanne Guy, Bowling Green
On Saturday Guy and her team fell to No19th Kentucky. Guy posted her second best all-around score at 38.875. She scored the highest of her team on all four events. Her best was on beam and floor where she posted her third best scores at 9.7 and 9.75 respectivly. Her best finish came on the bars where she tied for fourth.


Courtney Lesson, Western Michigan

Senior Courtney Lesson captured her fifth first place finish on the vault this season, sticking a 9.850 on the vault against Central Michigan. Scoring 9.625 or better in all of

her events, she placed third in the all-around with a total of 38.700.


Andrea de la Garza, Central Michigan
De la Garza led CMU to a victory in its regular season finale with a first place finish in the all-around (38.975). She finish in the top four on every event with a second on vault (9.775), bars (9.750) and beam (9.750), and a fourth on floor (9.700). She also tallied CMU's highest score on vault, was second on bars and beam, and third on floor


Specialist of the Week:


Rachel Stuck
Kent State
Junior ● Erie, Pa./Fairview

Junior Rachel Stuck matched her personal-best with a 9.900 mark to win on floor for the second time in the last three Kent State gymnastics meets. Stuck also recorded a season-high judge score of 9.775 on vault. Stuck continues to battle freshman teammate Christina Lenny for the top RQS floor score in the conference. She is currently second with a score of 9.810, .005 behind Lenny.


 Other Nominations:


Jennifer Naughton, Northern Illinois
Naughton took second place and all-state honors on the balance beam at the State of Illinois Classic with a 9.875 score to tie her season best and equal the second best score in the MAC this year. She also scored a 9.725 on the vault to place in the top 10 in the state.


Katie Follett, Bowling Green
Follett posted her third best bars score on the year at 9.525 against Kentucky on Saturday. She also posted her third best beam score on the year at 9.65 only .05 behind her career best.


Andrea Perini, Western Michigan

Junior Andrea Perini took claimed her first individual title on the floor this season, recording a season-high 9.800 against Central Michigan. It was just the second time this season that a Bronco has taken first in the floor exercise.


Jenna D'Alie, Central Michigan
D'Alie won bars for the second straight week in CMU's victory at Western Michigan. D'Alie tallied a 9.775 to win the event. She also scored a career-high on floor with a 9.725, which was good for third overall and CMU's second highest score.
