Gymnast of the Week:
Junior ● Glenview, Ill. (Glenbrook South)
Johnson again won three events and topped her own MAC-leading all-around score with a 38.925 Sunday in NIU's win over Western Michigan. In addition to the all-around, Johnson took first on the bars - tying her career high with a 9.775 and tied for first on the floor exercise with a 9.800. She also tied for third on vault, scoring 9.725 and was fourth on the beam with a season-best 9.750.
Andrea de la Garza, Central Michigan
De la Garza set career-highs on beam (9.750), floor (9.550), and the all-around (38.000) in the meet against Eastern Michigan. She was also CMU's top performer on vault, beam and the all-around while finishing second overall on beam and third on vault.
Breanne Guy, Bowling Green
Guy set a new season high in the all-around with her score of 38.475. This score was also high enough to win her the event. On vault she tied her season high with a 9.825 and placing her third in MAC scores.
Duyen Zu Vuong, Eastern Michigan
Zu Vuong collected three top-five finishes and the all-around honor this past Saturday, Jan. 26, leading the Green and White to a 193.050-189.325 victory over Mid-American Conference rival
Central Michigan University. Vuong picked up top honors in the first rotation of the night, the vault, with mark of 9.700. In the floor exercise routine, she placed third with a 9.650. A fifth place finish on the uneven bars followed with a score of 9.700. Her strong performances in the second meet of the year for EMU lead her to the top honors in the all-around, posting a season-high 38.750.
Specialist of the Week:
Junior ● Smithville, Mo. (Smithville HS)
Naughton won two events in NIU's win over Western Michigan as the Huskies team score of 193.400 is the second-highest in the MAC this year. Naughton contributed to that with a win on the balance beam where she tallied a 9.750 and she tied teammate Leah Johnson for honors on the floor with a season-best score of 9.800. Her floor score is tied for the second-highest in the MAC this year.
Jacque Bernhardt, Bowling Green
Bernhardt finished second on the vault behind team-mate Breanne Guy. Her score of 9.775 is also her second highest on the season. On floor she placed sixth with her highest score on the season at 9.625.
Danielle Espinoza, Central Michigan
Espinoza finished first on floor against Eastern Michigan with a season-high 9.800. The mark was also the highest by a CMU gymnast this season. Espinoza also scored a 9.550 on the beam.
Jennifer Charlebois, Eastern Michigan
Charlebois competed in only two events against the Chippewas this past weekend, but collected a first and second place finish. On the uneven bars she posted a 9.775, tying Venessa Rodriguez of CMU for top honors. On the balance beam, she carded a 9.750, tying teammate Erin
Grigg and Andrea DeLaGarza for second place. Her marks in both events are season-highs.
