Colin Clemente (Akron)

Colin Clemente fired off 141 strokes over two rounds to help guide the University of Akron men’s golf team to a 21-stroke victory against Kent State and Miami on Sunday. Clemente’s 1-under 69 at Windmill Lakes Golf Club tied for the best round in the 21-man field and helped propel him to the first medalist award of his career. His efforts guided the Zips to their second-straight team title, extending the school record to four on the season. The biology major tallied seven birdies over two rounds and also claimed his third top-five finish of the spring.

John Powers (Bowling Green)

Powers became the first Falcon to earn medalist honors since 2004 when he captured the UD Spring Invitational with a +13, 226. He opened the tournament with a 76-79 through 30+ mph winds for the entire day. He carded a 71 on Tuesday afternoon to climb from eighth to first in a span of 18 holes. The freshman finished second in par-3 scoring , fourth in the par-4 holes and third on the par-5s. He was also second in the tournament with eight birdies.

Burke had a breakout invitational for the Eagles, leading the tournament during the first two rounds to record a career-best 18, 36 and 54 hole score. During the opening 18 holes, the Baden, Ontario native fired a 64 to tie former EMU great Korey Mahoney for the lowest single round score in EMU history. The score set the Fossum Invitational record for lowest 36 hole total, breaking the mark of 135 set by Ohio State University’s John Cook in 1978. His score of 64 also tied for the lowest round in tournament history, equaling the marks of Northwestern University’s Luke Donald and Chris Thayer in 2001. Overall, Burke’s final score of 215 bested his previous 54 hole score of 222 at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate (March 22-23) and tied him for 16th with teammate Graham Hill.

Tyler Riley led the Rockets to an 11th-place finish at the Spartan/Fossum Invitational last weekend at Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Rockets shot a team score of 295 today to finish with a three-round total of a season-low 877. Riley led the Rockets with an even-par 216 (69-73-72) to finish in 20th place and his 69 was a season low for the team this season
