Women’s Golfer Of The Week

Erin Thorne, Western Michigan, Sr.

Bacebridge, Ont. (Bracebridge & Muskoka Lakes Secondary)

Thorne fired a final round 73 en route to a third-place finish at the Cardinal Classic to lead WMU in the individual standings. Thorne used a pair of birdies during the final 18 holes of the event to shoot 1-over-par and finish in third place in the individual standings.  She carded a 5-over-par 77 in the first round of the tournament and ended the event with a total score of 150.

McCann finished sixth among the 114 golfers at the Laker Fall Classic (9/04-05) after carding a 154 (79-75). The 75 matched her career-best. Just four days later at the Cardinal Classic (9/09-10) the junior fired another 156 (79-76) to finish T-17th versus 99 competitors.


Stephany  Fleet, Eastern Michigan, So., Dewitt. Mich. (Dewitt)

Fleet tied for fourth place at the Ball State Cardinal Classic, Sept. 9-10, after firing a 151 (74-77). Fleet's finish marked her third-career top 10 finish and fourth consecutive top 15 showing dating back to the EKU Spring Invitational, April 6-8. As a team, the Eagles carded a 311 in the final round to capture an eight-stoke victory in the 18-team field at The Players Club Golf Course. The Eagles posted a score of 607 for the tournament (296-311). Ferris State University finished second with a 615 (304-311) and Grand Valley State University placed third with a team total of 617 (311- 306).


Meredith Waterston, Ohio, Sr., Bloomington, Minn. (Academy of Holy Angels)

Waterston led the Bobcat women in the two-day Cardinal Classic to an eighth place finish in the season's first event.  The Bobcat senior shot a team-low 154 in the two-round tournament, which placed her in a tie for 11th in the individual standings.  Waterston's two-over 74 on Sunay tied her for the third-lowest among all individual scores in the tournament's final round.
