The Zips softball team will continue Mid-American Conference play this weekend (April 16-18) traveling to Central Michigan for a Friday doubleheader then crossing the state to play Eastern Michigan for a game apiece on Saturday and Sunday. UA returns to MAC play holding a 2-4 record. Akron went 1-0 over the CMU Chippewas in 2009 grabbing a 5-2 win. The Zips also swept the EMU Eagles by scores of 7-4 and 3-2. Junior Alex Riedeman has started the last four games for UA on the mound. Picking up a 4-2 win over Western Michigan, Riedeman ranks third in the league in earned run average with a 1.99 in 49.1 innings pitched at the conclusion of the weekend. Ninth on the career strikeout list is sophomore Andrea Arney who has amassed 333 prior to weekend play. Leading Akron on the bases is Heather Bauer who following the conclusion of play against Western Michigan had 17, averaging .53 SB/G on the bags which ranks third in the league and 46th nationally.
||Ball State Game Notes
After cruising past Indiana in 5-2 and 9-1 wins Wednesday at the BSU Softball Complex, the Ball State Cardinals (26-9; 4-2 MAC) return to their Mid-American Conference schedule Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. against the University at Buffalo Bulls (13-21; 3-3 MAC) in Buffalo, N.Y. The doubleheader marks the Cardinals first road game since March 30. Jessie Ware, a senior transfer from Arizona State, tallied her tenth triple of the season April 9 against Central Michigan to become Ball State's all-time single season leader in the category. She is batting at a team-leading .402 clip and also leads the team with 47 hits, 36 runs and a .761 slugging percentage. With 174 strikeouts this season, Milian surpassed Ball State's career strikeout leader, Bernie Coffman (1986-89), who amassed 628, against Indiana Wednesday. To date, Milian has 630 career strikeouts. Milian already owns the school's single season record for strike outs, accumulating 204 in 2009
||Bowling Green Game Notes
Head coach Shannon Salsburg and the Bowling Green State University softball team will take on Mid-American Conference West opponents, the Northern Illinois Huskies (Fri., April 16) and the Western Michigan Broncos (Sat., April 17 & 18), for the Falcons final home stand of the 2010 season. The Orange and Brown squad is currently third in the MAC East, with a 4-2 MAC record and 8-14 record overall. The Falcons swept a two-game series against the Toledo Rockets this weekend (April 11 and 12), defeating the I-75 rivals 3-1 in the first game and 9-1, in five innings, in the second. On Sunday, three Falcons smashed home runs over the fence, including Paige Berger (8), Susan Sontag (2) and Zada Lines (1). Lines pitched a 0.78 ERA on the weekend and won both games from the mound, improving her pitching record to 4-6 overall.

The Bulls are 13-21 overall and 3-3 in the MAC. After splitting with Kent State last weekend, Buffalo defeated St. Bonaventure in a doubleheader on Wednesday, winning the first game 7-0 and the nightcap, 12-7. Its top player has been sophomore infielder Kristin Waldron. She is hitting .348 with one home run and 19 RBI. Its most often used pitcher is senior Sharon Barr. She is 11-11 with a 4.62 ERA in 32 appearances (19 starts) this year.

||Central Michigan Game Notes
Central is coming off a 2-2 weekend in which it split series against 2009 MAC champion Ball State and 2009 MAC Tournament winner Miami. The Chippewas' 17 victories have already eclipsed last year's total (12) and they have also matched their 2009 total MAC wins. CMU's offense is spring-boarding its resurgence as the Maroon and Gold bats boast a league-high .297 average and average 5.52 runs per game. Central has also gotten it done in the circle, as its 2.72 ERA currently ranks third in the conference.

||Eastern Michigan Game Notes
Eastern Michigan enters action this weekend with a 3-5 record in conference play and 13-20 mark overall after a 5-3 extra-inning win over Oakland Wednesday evening. The Eagles are hitting .250 as a team and are led by short stop Stacie Skodinski, a Second Team All-MAC performer last season. The junior leads EMU with a .367 average and 15 RBI. Senior outfielder Jenny Scherer is tied for tops in the conference with eight homers, while senior Jessica Patterson is hitting .299. Jamie Melchert and Jenna Ignowski have seen the majority of the action in the circle, with Melchert leading the team with a 3.14 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.

The MAC's defending regular season and tournament champions will both visit "The Diamond at Dix" this weekend as the Kent State softball team (17-16) hosts Miami (19-16) in a doubleheader Friday (April 16) and Ball State (26-9) in single games Saturday and Sunday (April 17-18). The Golden Flashes, RedHawks and Cardinals make up three of the five teams atop the conference standings at 4-2. Last weekend they split a series with Buffalo, taking Saturday's game, 8-2, before falling on Sunday, 2-1.The leader of Kent State is senior pitcher Kylie Reynolds. The two-time MAC Pitcher of the Year has been among the nation's leaders in strikeouts the past four seasons. This year she is 12-12 with a 2.28 ERA and 217 strikeouts in 150.2 innings pitched. The top hitter is freshman outfielder Lauren Grimes. She has a .437 batting average with eight home runs and 19 RBIs.

Miami hits the road as it tries to move in front of a tightly bunched MAC East Division. The RedHawks travel to fellow divisional co-leader Kent State on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. They then move onto Buffalo for single games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Sarah Billstrom (.292) is leading the team with seven home runs and 21 RBIs. Sophomore Daniela Torres is hitting .363 with eight doubles, four triples and three home runs. Junior Meghan Mawn is batting .355, while senior Alicia Hogl (.284) is 13-for-13 on stolen base attempts. The RedHawks rank first in the MAC and 16th in the nation with a .972 fielding percentage. pitcher Jessica Simpson is currently 13-9 with five shutouts, 122 strikeouts and a 1.31 ERA that ranks 25th in the nation.

||Northern Illinois Game Notes
The Northern Illinois University softball team embarks on a six-game road trip this weekend when the Huskies travel to eastern Ohio to face Toledo in a doubleheader Friday and take on Bowling Green Saturday and Sunday. The Huskies (16-22, 5-3), who enter this weekend's action in second place behind Ball State in the MAC West, have played well away from home this season going 3-1 during their last road trip with a sweep of Akron and splitting with Ohio. NIU will be looking to build off it's highest offensive output in three years as NIU pounded out 17 hits in a 12-8 victory over UIC Wednesday night. Michelle Williams and Amanda Sheppard provided much of the firepower for the Huskies against the Flames. Williams led the way for the Huskies going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Sheppard had a solid game all-around for the Huskies. She was 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. Zoe Sinner, who was named MAC West player of the week, continued her solid play at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Her two-run single against UIC was part of a four-run fifth that helped secure the Huskie victory.
||Ohio Game Notes
Ohio University comes in with an overall record of 9-24, but is 4-2 in the Mid-American Conference after taking a doubleheader sweep from Western Michigan last Friday, April 9, before splitting a pair of single games with Northern Illinois the two days proceeding. Ohio then dropped a non-conference, mid-week doubleheader to Marshall last Tuesday to make it three losses in four games. Shalene Petrich leads all Bobcat hitters with a .349 average (38-for-109). In the circle, 35 starts have been split fairly evenly between Caitlin Colvin, Emily Wethington and Melissa Bonner. Wethington and Bonner share a team-high four wins apiece while Colvin leads the team in ERA at 2.62.
||Toledo Game Notes
The Toledo softball team returns to Scott Park to conclude the home portion of its schedule Friday through Sunday. The Rockets host Northern Illinois in a doubleheader on Friday that starts at 1 p.m. as part of the team's Alumni Day to honor past players. On Saturday, UT welcomes Western Michigan to Scott Park for a 2 p.m. contest. As a team, UT (7-26, 1-5 MAC) will look to snap a five-game losing skid and also get its offense back in gear. The Rockets were one of the most-prolific hitting teams in the MAC but have managed just five runs in their past four games. Erinn Wright continues to provide life to the lineup, as the freshman is one of the MAC's top hitters with a .364 batting average. Kate Ricchio (.306) and Brooke Gates (.305) are also hitting above .300 for the Rockets this spring. Jillian Spink continues to lead UT sluggers in home runs (4) and RBI (23) this spring. She still ranks third in the conference with her 23 RBI, while Gates is sixth in the league with her 13 steals.

Western Michigan softball continues its road trip throughout the Mid-American Conference this weekend with the bus stopping in Bowling Green, Ohio and Toledo, Ohio for a doubleheader with the Falcons on Friday (April 16) and a two-game series with the Rockets beginning on Saturday (April 17) and concluding on Sunday (April 18). Meghan Thomas' home run against Akron on April 10 marked the first for WMU since Gracie Barstad's shot at Notre Dame on March 18. Junior Lexi Jager is a threat to hit a triple in any at bat. She currently leads the team with three. In fact she ranks in a tie for 40th in the country in total triples this season. Chelsea Westenburg is the only other Bronco to hit a triple this season.
