S - McMillen (17)

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - David Starn spread two Bowling Green runs over 7.1 innings of work to pick up his eighth win and Ben Klafczynski went 3-5 with 3 RBI's and two runs scored as Kent State picked up its 40th win of the season and moved into the winner's bracket of the 2011 MAC Baseball Tournament at the VA Memorial Stadium.

Bowling Green showed some promise early, opening the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single from Matthew Pitzulo, bringing Frank Berry in from third for a 1-0 Falcons lead.

Kent State jumped on Bowling Green starter Matt Malewitz immediately in the bottom of the first inning, putting the top two in the order on second and third with one away before clean-up hitter Ben Klafczynski smoked a liner to right-centerfield to bring in Evan Campbell and Jimmy Rider for a 2-1 lead. The Golden Flashes weren't done in the frame as Jason Bagoly later tripled to right field, bringing in Klafczynski and David Lyon for a 4-1 advantage.

The Falcons cut into the lead in the top of the third as Jon Berti ripped a two-out double to centerfield, then was cashed in on Pitzulo's second RBI of the evening on a liner over the shortstop, bringing Bowling Green within two at 4-2, however those would be the last runs they would manage as Starn and relievers Justin Gill and Kyle McMillen combined to allow just three hits the rest of the way.

Kent State's offense was held in check for much of the night by reliever Ross Gerdeman before finally stringing together a two-out rally in the bottom of the eighth inning spurred by doubles from Klafczynski and David Lyon. Bowling Green would load the bases in the top of the ninth and bring the tying run to the plate but grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.

Kent State (40-14) will face No. 5 Eastern Michigan in a 4 p.m. game tomorrow while Bowling Green (20-30) will play the Northern Illinois Huskies in an elimination game at 12:30 p.m.
