MAC Announces Gymnast and Specialists of the Week

Gymnast of the Week
Christina Lenny, Kent State
Senior, Broadview Heights, Ohio (Brecksville-Broadview Heights)
Lenny won the all-around thanks to a career day and an overall point total of 39.450, which ties her for fifth all-time in school history, to help No. 21 Kent State defeat Western Michigan, 195.875-194.975, in a Mid-American Conference meet Sunday (Feb. 27) at the M.A.C. Center. She set the tone for the day by winning on the vault by tying her career-best score of 9.925. She also tied for first on the floor exercise with a career-high 9.925. Lenny tied for third with a 9.825 on the uneven bars and tied for seventh on the balance beam with a score of 9.775. Her balance beam score helped the Golden Flashes achieve a team season-best score of 49.100. Kent State's team point total was also a season best and is currently the best overall team score in the conference. Lenny is currently 13th in the nation in the all-around with a regional qualifying average score of 39.150 and is eighth in the country on the vault with an RQS average of 9.889, which are both tops in the MAC. The Golden Flashes welcome Ball State to the M.A.C. Center for Senior Day next Sunday (March 6.)

Emily Heinz help Central Michigan win the CMU Quadrangular with a first-place finish on beam. Her score of 9.850 matched a career-high and matches the top score in the MAC this season.

Lindsay Runyan, Kent State
Sophomore, Maineville, Ohio (Ursuline)
Runyan won on the uneven bars with a 9.950, tying her for the best score all-time in the Kent State record books to help the No. 21 Golden Flashes defeat Western Michigan, 195.875-194.975, in a Mid-American Conference meet Sunday (Feb. 27) at the M.A.C. Center. She also tied for seventh on the balance beam by posting a 9.775. Her balance beam score helped the Golden Flashes achieve a team season-best score of 49.100. Kent State's team point total was also a season best and is currently the best overall team score in the conference. Runyan is currently tied for eighth in the country with a MAC-best 9.875 regional qualifying score. The Golden Flashes welcome Ball State to the M.A.C. Center for Senior Day next Sunday (March 6).

Brittney Emmons won the all-around and the floor exercise to lead Ball State to a 193.400 to 192.025 Mid-American Conference victory over Northern Illinois Friday night. In addition, Emmons was second on the vault, tied for third on the bars and tied for fourth on the beam. Her 9.650 on the beam was a season high.

Kayla Kmiecik, Ball State
Junior, Avon, Ohio (Magnificat)
Kayla Kmiecik helped Ball State to a Mid-American Conference victory over Northern Illinois Friday with a win on the uneven bars. The win was the first individual title of Kmiecik's career and came after a 9.725 career-high performance. The Cardinals tallied a team win in the bars and defeated the Huskies 193.400 to 192.025 to improve to 3-1 in MAC action. The three league wins are the most since the 2002 campaign.

Kasey Fillmore, Bowling Green
Senior, Danielson, Conn. (Killingly)
Kasey Fillmore scored a 37.875 in the all-around at the Master's Classic in Lincoln, Neb., finishing sixth overall in the four-team meet. The senior scored a 9.500 on vault, a 9.575 on bars, a 9.250 on beam and 9.550 on floor.

Andrea de la Garza, Central Michigan
Senior, Macomb, Mich. (Dakota)
Andrea de la Garza led the Chippewas to a first-place finish at the CMU Quadrangular meet with a pair of victories and four top-three finishes. De la Garza took first on vault with a season-high 9.850 and in the all-around with a season-best of 39.200. She also took second on floor with a season-high 9.825 and was third on beam with a 9.800.

Kristina Kurkmilis, Eastern Michigan
Sophomore, Eagleville, Pa. (Methacton)
Sophomore Kristina Kurkmilis had a great showing at the CMU Quad recording a career high 9.825 on the vault, good for seventh place.

Nikole Viltz, Eastern Michigan
Senior, Hawthorn Woods, Ill. (Carmel)
Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) finished in a six-way tie for first place on the vault recording a 9.850. Viltz posted a career high 9.750 on the floor exercise, earning her a ninth place finish and notched a seventh place finish on the balance beam, earning a score of 9.675.

Marisa Liptak, Northern Illinois
Sophomore, Kendall Park, N.J. (South Brunswick)
Liptak posted her career high balance beam score of 9.650 while notching a fourth-place finish on the event while her 9.700 on floor was the second time this year she has reached 9.700 or higher on that event. She had the second-highest score of the night for NIU on both events.

Holly Reichard, Northern Illinois
Senior, Palatine, Ill. (Fremd)
Holly Reichard earned her second highest all-around score of the year and took the individual event titles on both bars and balance beam at Ball State. Reichard tied her season-best score on uneven bars with a 9.725. Reichard has competed in every event at every meet for the Huskies this year.
