MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week
Chelsey Bower, Ohio University - Senior, Bethel Park, Pa. (Bethel Park High School)
In Ohio's lone dual meet of the weekend, Bower won all four events in which she competed. Bower swam anchor in the winning 200 Medley Relay (1:46.77), which is currently the fourth-best time in the conference. Bower won the 50 Free (24.02) by over half a second and she followed up that event with a first-place finish in the 100 Free for her third victory of the day. In her final event, Bower swam second on the 200 Free Relay team (1:35.58), which currently ranks fourth in the conference.
Briana Emig, Eastern Michigan- Freshman, Sewickley, Pa. (Ambridge High School)
Emig recorded two first place finishes to go along with and second and third place finish in a two-day dual meet with Purdue. Emig claimed a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:10.95), which was nearly nine seconds faster than the next closest finisher from Purdue and the second-fastest time in the MAC this year. Emig also helped the 400-yard free relay team to a win after placing second in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 400-yard individual medley.
Cathryn Collins, Akron- Senior, Hilton Head, S.C. (Hilton Head High School)
Collins registered four top-three finishes on the weekend, including one victory, four second place and one third place finish in six events. Collins won the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.73) against Oakland, while finishing second in both 200-yard butterfly (2:06.05) and 200-yard individual medley (2:11.05). In a non-conference match up against Pittsburgh, Collins came away with second place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.26), 200-yard butterfly (2:07.25) and 500-yard freestyle (5:05.37). Additionally, the senior assisted on a first place relay swim as the Zips claimed the win in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.11).
Leah Thornton, Miami- Freshman, Helena, Ala.
Thornton claimed first-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.33) and as the lead-off swimmer on the 200-yard medley relay team (1:45.42). Thornton also took second in the 200 butterfly (2:07.22). Miami defeated defending NCAA Division III champion Kenyon.
Mary Ehresman, Ball State- Senior, Lafayette, Ind. (Jefferson High School)
Ehresman helped guide the Ball State women to a first-place finish at the 2009 House of Championships Invitational at IUPUI by collecting a pair of first-place finishes in the meet's longest events. Ehresman started the two-day meet with a first-place showing in the 500 free (5:10.17) to beat Xavier's Kari Peglar by nearly three seconds. In the 1650 freestyle, Ehresman (17:47.75) topped teammate and second-place finisher Elizabeth Spilman by 16.12 seconds. Ehresman also placed fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:14.24).
