KSU's Meixner Named Women's Golfer of the Week

Kira Meixner ● Kent State ● Sr. ● Richmond, B.C./Hugh Boyd Secondary

Meixner won the Lady Northern Invitational and led the Golden Flashes to a team title with a 4-under par 212 (66-73-73) this weekend. She began the tournament with a 6-under 66 in round one, setting a new course record, beating the previous mark of 68 held by former Penn State and current LPGA member Katie Futcher in 2001. Meixner led the tournament field with 14 birdies in 54 holes.  She was also named Player of the Week by GolfWeek Magazine on Monday.

Catherine Fortin, Eastern Michigan, Senior

Fortin continued her strong play with a third consecutive top-10 showing, turning in a third place finish at the Lady Northern Invitational. Competing against some of the region's best golfers, the Beauceville, Canada native carded a 74 in the final round to finish with a 218 (71-73-74), the fourth lowest 54-hole total in school history. As a team, the Eagles tied for seventh with a team score of 924 (305-316-303).

 

Erica Rivard, Toledo, Freshman

Rivard led the Rockets for a third straight tournament with a 14-over par 230 (78-76-76) to finish in 21st place. UT finished in 13th place at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate with a team score of 943 (316-311-316).
