MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan (2-7 overall, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) lost to Kent State (6-5, 1-0 MAC) by a score of 2-0 at the CMU Field Hockey Complex on Friday.

The game was scoreless going into halftime. It stayed that way until KSU senior midfielder Rachel Miller scored the first goal of the day 13 minutes into the second half. Junior forward Debbie Bell had an assist on the play.

The Chippewas had a couple chances to tie the game late but could not find the back of the cage. With just over two minutes to go, KSU junior back Carla Johl scored on a putback for the second and final goal for the Golden Flashes.

KSU outshot CMU 18-5 and held the edge in penalty corners 14-5.

Junior Anastasia Netto started in goal for the Chippewas and played all 70 minutes. She made nine saves on the day, including a few that were highlight reel material.

Junior forward Paulina Lee led the CMU offensive attack with three shots, including two shots on goal. Junior back Brooke Sihota and freshman forward Bailey McKeon also had one shot for the game.

The Chippewas are back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. when they face the Ohio Bobcats at the CMU Field Hockey Complex. Ohio comes in on a five game winning streak.

CMU will also honor its 1990 MAC Championship team for a 20-year reunion before the game tomorrow.

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team fell to Mid-American Conference foe Miami, 2-0, Friday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field. The Cardinals and RedHawks finished the contest deadlocked in shots, 10-10, however Miami capitalized on 2-of-5 shots on goal.

Miami's Jackie Nguyen provided the first scoring opportunity for the RedHawks, as the junior forward tapped in a shot from across the net at 16:30 mark. Freshman midfielder Emily Gruesser followed that performance with Miami's second and final goal of the day at 29:53 mark. Senior forward Mary Hull provided the assists on the day.

Junior midfielder Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) and junior forward Brittany Hammer St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's) tallied seven and three shots during the contest, respectively, while junior midfielder Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) finished with her second defensive save of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Hammer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) recorded two saves in the cage, while the RedHawks' Sarah Mueller tallied five in 70 minutes of action.

The Cardinals return to the BSU Turf field Saturday as Ball State hosts the Missouri State at 1 p.m. The contest marks the 19th meeting between the two teams, as the Cardinals own a 13-5 series advantage against the Bears. Missouri State finished the 2009 season with a 4-16 record (1-9 MAC).
