MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Sven Burus, Toledo- Senior, Slavonski Brod, Croatia

Toledo senior Sven Burus helped the Rockets claim three wins over the weekend and push their overall match-win streak to 10. He went a perfect 6-0 in his singles and doubles contests to lead the way to the Rockets' 21st win of the season, the most wins accumulated in a single season in the history of the program. In the first match against UW-Green Bay, Burus and Aleksandar Elezovic won 8-3 in the top doubles draw, while Burus also picked up a 6-4, 6-0 decision in No. 3 singles to help Toledo to a 6-1 win. Later in the day, Burus again claimed wins in No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles against Big East power Marquette, leading Toledo to a 4-3 win. Finally, Burus picked up his fifth and sixth wins of the weekend at No. 2 singles and doubles in Toledo's 7-0 win over Chicago State, giving Toledo their tenth consecutive victory.

Vusa Hove, Buffalo- Sophomore, Harare, Zimbabwe

Buffalo sophomore Vusa Hove won both his singles and doubles matches as the Bulls defeated Marist, 5-2. Hove scored the clinching victory, at second singles, battling past Joris Van Eck, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 as he shook off leg cramps to post his team-best 16th singles win of the season. Hove also paired with Wojceich Starakiewicz for the first time this season to form the number one doubles team as they scored an 8-5 win.

Pablo Olivarez, Western Michigan- Junior, Muntinlupa City, Philippines

Western Michigan junior Pablo Olivarez continued to be a force in doubles play last week, going 2-0 in teaming with Casey Cullen to defeat MAC & Midwest Region opponents from Northern Illinois, as well as take the No. 2 doubles against Drake.  Olivarez also went 1-1 in singles play last week. Against Northern Illinois, Olivarez & Cullen defeated Bryant Poggensee-Wei & Tyler Stephens 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles match to extend their unbeaten streak in that slot; Olivarez & Cullen are 9-0 this year in No. 3 doubles matches.  That win helped the Broncos take the doubles point from the Huskies.  Later that day, Olivarez played above his normal slot in singles play in defeating Northern Illinois' Roman Turtygin 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match.  That win helped Western Michigan take the 6-1 victory over the Huskies. Against Drake, Olivarez again teamed with Cullen to help the Broncos take the doubles point, this time defeating James McKie & Jean Erasmus 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles.  Overall this season, Olivarez is 16-12 in singles play and a sterling 22-7 in doubles play, and leads the Broncos in doubles wins this season.  The Broncos are 11-9 overall, with a 2-0 record in MAC play and a 6-3 record in Midwest region play.
