MAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Molly Cornwell, Toledo, Forward

Senior, Pickerington, Ohio (North)
Cornwell finished with a pair of goals and one assist to help lift Toledo to a 4-1 victory over Xavier in its season opener on Saturday at Scott Park. With the two goals, Cornwell moved into sole possession of second place in school history with 31 career tallies.

Other Nominees
Rachel Phillip, Akron, Forward
Sophomore, Ashland, Ohio (Ashland)

Phillip was involved in both scoring sequences in Akron's 2-1 season-opening win over Wright State on Sunday. She assisted on the Zips' first goal and then scoring what would prove to be the eventual gamewinner minutes later. Phillip's goal came off a breakaway in the 23rd minute, after she was responsible for heading the ball to Alysia Virkler for the team's first score in the 18th minute.

Alexa Arsenault, Bowling Green, Goalkeeper
Redshirt Junior, Richmond Hill, Ontario (St. Theresa of Lisieux)

Made eight saves, including several of the spectacular variety, in the Falcons' 2-0 loss at Ohio State. Kept the Falcons in the game despite BG's being outshot, 27-3.

Amy Coron, Buffalo, Goalkeeper
Senior, Farmington, N.Y. (Victor)

In Buffalo's game against Pittsburgh, senior goalkeeper Amy Coron kept the game within reach, making 12 saves while holding the Panthers to just one goal.

Liesel Toth, Central Michigan, Defender
Sophomore, Victor, N.Y. (Victor)

Tallied her first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game-winner, in CMU's season-opening 4-0 win at IPFW. Led Central's stout defensive performance at the back end as CMU held IPFW to only two shots in the shutout victory.

Kelly Heaton, Kent State, Forward
Junior, Mississauga, Ontario (Our Lady-Mt. Carmel)

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Heaton came off the bench and shouldered the offensive load for Kent State, notching the game-tying goal in the 74th minute and following with an assist on the game-winner less than three minutes later to vault the Golden Flashes to a 2-1 win Friday.

Kersta Carlson, Miami, Midfielder
Senior Plymouth, Minn. (Wayzata)

Carlson started both contests in the midfield to open the 2009 season. She scored Miami's first goal of the season just over two minutes into Sunday's game against Eastern Kentucky, which turned out to be the game-winning goal. Carlson also tallied her first-career assist on the RedHawks' third goal vs. EKU with a perfect corner kick into the box to finish with a three-point game. Carlson's only shot of the weekend was her goal.

Christa Puccio, Ohio, Goalkeeper
Senior, Scaggsville, Md. (Reservior)
Senior keeper tallied six saves against Cincinnati Sunday. Allowed two goals in over 100 minutes of action on the week against both Purdue and Cincinnati.
