Gymnast of the Week

Holly Reichard, Northern Illinois, So., Palatine, Ill./Fremd

Reichard scored a career best 39.125 in the all around to lead NIU to a win over Bowling Green. She won three events on the day and finished second in two others, finishing with a career best 9.800 on the floor exercise while also tying her career high with a 9.850 on vault.

 

Specialists of the Week

Nichole Sleeper, Ball State, Fr., Downers Grove, Ill./South

Sleeper won the vault in her first collegiate meet and helped the Cardinals to a 190.725-184.350 victory at Penn in the season opener for both teams.

 

Gymnast of the Week Nominees

Brittney Emmons, Ball State, Fr., Pace, Fla./Tate

Emmons won the floor exercise and placed second on the vault and beam in her first collegiate meet at Penn...Emmons helped Ball State to a 190.725-184.350 victory.

 

Breanne Guy, Bowling Green, Jr., Bradenton, Florida/Arkansas

Junior Breanne Guy opened the 2009 season with a bang recording a career high 38.975 in the all-around, which is the fourth best all-around score in BG history. Guy finished in the top-two of three events, including a first place finish on vault as she stuck a 9.875 tying her career high and the fourth best vault score in program history.

 

Katie Simon, Central Michigan, Jr., Bistol, Wis./Westosha

Simon led CMU to a season opening victory with three first-place event finishes. The junior won the all-around (38.925), vault (9.875) and bars (9.850) in the victory. She matched a career high on bars. Simon also took fourth on beam (9.6) and seventh on floor (9.6).

 

Christina Lenny, Kent State, So., Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights

In the season-opening meet at Maryland (1/9), Lenny recorded a score of 9.825 on vault to win the event. She also placed third on floor with a score of 9.775 against the Terrapins.

 

Specialist of the Week Nominees

Kasey Fillmore, Bowling Green, Fr., Danielson, Connecticut/Killingly

Kasey Fillmore, a red-shirt freshman, finally got her debut as a Falcon this past weekend against Northern Illinois where she recorded her first collegiate win with a first place finish on the balance beam. After being sidelined due to injury last season Fillmore came out strong in her first collegiate meet scoring a 9.750 on beam and 9.575 on bars.

 

Danielle D'Elia, Central Michigan, Fr., Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck

D'Elia made her CMU debut with a second-place finish on floor with a 9.775. D'Elia, a true freshman, also took eight on vault with a 9.600.

 

Brittany Kopp, Kent State, Jr., Cleveland, Ohio/Holy Name

In the season-opening meet at Maryland (1/9), Kop scored a 9.725 on vault and a 9.600 on beam to finish fifth and third in each event respectively.

 

Natalie Blum, Northern Illinois, Jr., Homer Glen, IL/Lockport Township

Blum posted three excellent scores for the Huskies in the win over Bowling Green as she took fourth place on the vault and bars and was fifth on floor exercise. Her performance was even more critical as senior Jennifer Naughton - who anchors three events, was a late scratch for NIU.
