RENO, Nev. - The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team forced overtime after Katie Marsh (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter) scored her first goal of the season in the 89th minute, but San Jose State University spoiled the comeback with an early score in the extra session at the Wolf Pack Invitational hosted by the University of Nevada Thursday, Sept. 16.
Lord's team-leading fourth goal came just 46 seconds into the second half and nearly held up as the decisive score until Marsh tallied her first goal of the season with just 65 seconds remaining in regulation. Then, only 67 seconds into the first overtime session, Kayla Santacruz put the match to rest with her first goal of the season.
The Eagles fall to 3-4-1 overall while the Spartans move to 3-5 on the young season.
The Spartans outshot the Eagles 19-8 while putting 10 shots on goal to EMU's five. EMU goalkeeper Monique Budani (Whitby, Ontario-Sinclair) made eight saves to eclipse 300 for her career and pull her to within eight of tying Nikki Allen's ('04) all-time mark of 312. The senior has averaged nearly eight saves per game and could tie or break the record in her next outing against invitational host, Nevada.
The Green and White will do battle with Nevada at Mackay Stadium Saturday, Sept. 18, in Reno at 2 p.m. pacific time. EMU seeks a split in its Wolf Pack Invitational finale.
