MAC Announces Softball Players of the Week

West Division Player of the Week - Stephanie Tofft, Northern Illinois
Stephanie Tofft was an offensive machine as the Huskies won the Colorado State Classic over the weekend, taking four of five games. The freshman from Lincoln, Calif. started all five games at catcher for the Huskies and hit an amazing .688, going 11-for-16 from the plate with seven of those hits going for extra bases. She drove in 15 runs on the weekend, belting two homers and seven doubles, slugging 1.375. Tofft also scored 11 runs. She now leads the team in batting average (.435) RBIs (17), runs (13), doubles (8) and home runs (2). Tofft drove in a career-high six runs in Northern Illinois' 19-5 with over Colorado State, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored, and knocked in four runs in the Huskies' 13-5 decision over Santa Clara.

East Division Player of the Week - Jess Carmichael, Kent State
In just three games on the weekend Carmichael totaled three home runs, nine runs batted in and seven runs scored.  She doubled and drew three walks for a .571 on-base percentage.  Carmichael hit .455 with a 1.364 slugging percentage.  She added a sacrifice bunt and stole a base on her only attempt.

West Division Pitcher of the Week - Kari Seddon, Central Michigan
Senior Kari Seddon started her weekend with a season-high 12 strikeouts versus the Cougars of the College of Charleston, taking the loss despite pitching the complete game 8 2/3 innings and giving up just one earned run. On Sunday, Seddon pitched her second complete game of the weekend, tossing seven innings of one-hit ball. The senior struck out seven Wagner Seahawks and improved her weekend ERA to 0.45 overall. Seddon finished the weekend with 19 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings pitched with a WHIP of 0.89. Seddon also moved into eighth place on CMU's career shutout list with 17. The St. Clair, Mich., native also went 8-for-17 at the plate over the weekend for a .471 batting average while driving in two.

East Division Pitcher of the Week - Jessica Simpson, Miami
Jessica was 1-1 with a 1.78 ERA in three appearances (two starts) this weekend in Georgia. She continued an impressive strikeout pace with 24 in 19.2 innings of work. She suffered a tough luck 1-0 loss to Penn State out of the Big Ten on Friday, giving up only a sixth inning home run. She came in relief and settled down the team in a 7-3 loss to Georgia State on Sunday after they had fallen behind 5-0. She earned a complete game victory over Connecticut later Sunday, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out 11.
