Christina Lenny, Kent State, Sr., Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights
Lenny had a huge meet in her own backyard last Friday (Jan. 21) as the No. 11 ranked Kent State gymnastics team tied Brigham Young for first place at its home-away-from-home quad meet at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. She won the all-around title with 39.150 points after winning on the vault (9.900), uneven bars (9.875 -- a new personal best) and finishing third on the floor exercise (9.750). Lenny's performance marked the second straight week she won the all-around and the vault titles. She currently ranks 10th in the nation in the all-around (39.238 season average), tied for eighth on the vault (9.888 season average) and 13th on the uneven bars (9.838 season average).
Specialist of the Week
Lauren Wozniak, Kent State, So., Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin
Wozniak posted a second-place finish on the floor exercise with a 9.775 as the No. 11 ranked Kent State gymnastics team tied Brigham Young for first place at its home-away-from-home quad meet Friday (Jan. 21) at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. She also posted a career-high score of 9.825 on the floor exercise, finishing in a three-way tie for third place in the event.
Sunny Marchand, Bowling Green, So., Pelham, NH/Lowell Catholic
Sunny Marchand won a pair of events this weekend at Northern Illinois, finishing first on vault (9.750) and floor (9.750). It was a season-best score for the sophomore of each event.
Andrea de la Garza, Central Michigan, Sr., Macomb, Mich./Dakota
De la Garza won three events including the all-around to lead Central Michigan to first place at the Michigan vs. Illinois challenge hosted by Illinois State. She tallied a 39.075 to win the all-around and added event victories on beam (9.850) and vault (9.775). She tallied season highs on vault, beam, floor and in the all-around.
Alyssa Wilson, Central Michigan, Fr., Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland
For the third straight week, Wilson was Central Michigan's top scorer on bars. The freshman scored a 9.775 to finish third overall as CMU took first at the Michigan vs. Illinois Challenge hosted by Illinois State.
Nikole Viltz, Eastern Michigan, Sr., Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Carmel
Senior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.- Carmel) had a standout performance finishing ninth on the vault recording a 9.650, and eighth on the balance beam earning a 9.550. She also recorded a 9.375 on the floor exercise.
Shonda Clore, Northern Illinois, Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview
Shonda Clore earned a pair of second place finishes in NIU's MAC victory over Bowling Green Sunday. Back in the vault line-up for the first time this season as she continues to recover from a preseason ankle injury, Clore scored a 9.650 to lead all NIU gymnasts on the event. She followed that with a 9.700 performance on uneven parallel bars, again, tops on the Huskie team (along with Ashley Guerra). That score also tied her career and season high on bars.
Holly Reichard, Northern Illinois, Sr., Palatine, Ill./Fremd
Senior Holly Reichard earned her highest all-around score of the season with a 38.000 in the Huskies' win over Bowling Green. She also tied her season best on uneven bars with a 9.650 to lead NIU to a team season high bars score. Her beam score topped all competitors Sunday and was her second best score of the season as was her floor exercise number. Reichard's leadership was also important Sunday as the Huskies' team captain helped her young NIU teammates overcome a disappointing performance from the week before.
Lauren Bledsoe, Western Michigan, Fr., Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower
Freshman Lauren Bledsoe performed in two events in each of WMU's two meets this week and helped the Broncos post their highest road score since 2004 with a 193.800 in a win at Southeast Missouri State. On Monday at UIC, Bledsoe placed first in vault with a 9.750 and finished second on bars with a 9.700. On Friday, she turned in a fourth place finish on bars and a runner-up finish on floor, scoring a 9.775 and a 9.800, respectively. Her 9.800 on floor also tied a team season-high.
Caitlin Sullivan, Western Michigan, So., Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central
Caitlin Sullivan was solid for the Broncos in two meets this week, and helped the Broncos post their highest road score since 2004 with a 193.800 in a win at Southeast Missouri State. Sullivan started off the week taking first in two of her three events Monday against UIC. She scored a 9.750 on vault and a set a team season-high with a 9.775 on beam. She also added a 9.625 on floor. On Friday at SEMO, she finished runner-up in all three of her events, scoring a 9.750 on vault, a 9.725 on beam and tying a team-season high with a 9.800 on floor.
