Updated 8/27/2009

Cleveland, Ohio ? For the second consecutive season Kent State has been picked to capture the MAC regular season and tournament titles as voted on by the leagues head coaches.

Coming off their first Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season title since 2005 and their first MAC Tournament championship since 2002 the Golden Flashes had one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2008. Sophomore Debbie Bell returns after a MAC Freshman of the Year campaign in which she tallied 21 goals and accumulated 46 points to lead the Flashes in both categories. Junior Rachel Miller dished out a team-high 14 assists and was second on the team in goals (12) and points (38). She adds the role of team captain to her list of responsibilities in '09. Goalkeeping junior Caroline Suitch remains Kent State's last line of defense after starting all 22 games in net and making 89 saves last year.

Miami was tabbed to finish second in the Preseason Poll. Miami won 14 games in 2008, the most since winning 14 in 1983. The RedHawks return nine letterwinners. Those nine accumulated 38 of the 64 goals scored by Miami last season (59.4 percent). Included in the returning letterwinners is starting goalkeeper Abbey Huck who had an 8-6 record and 1.95 goals-against average as a freshman in 2008.

Rounding out the rest of the poll are Ohio, Central Michigan, Ball State and Missouri State, respectively.  Field Hockey season kicks off Friday, August 28.  The MAC Field Hockey Championship will be hosted by Ball State November 5-7.
