MAC Announces Volleyball Players of the Week

West Division Player of the Week

Hayvolla Leite, Eastern Michigan, Sr., OH, Paraiba, Brazil/Indian Hills CC

Leite led the Eagles to a 1-1 week including a 3-2 victory over MAC West rival Northern Illinois University, Oct. 4. The senior outside hitter averaged 3.22 kills, 2.11 digs and 0.67 blocks per set to go along with a .253 hitting percentage. In the win over the Huskies, Leite collected her first double-double of the season, as she tallied a career-best 22 kills and 19 digs to go along with her .280 hitting percentage. Her 22 kills are tied for the 17th most in the EMU Convocation Center’s 10-year history and are the most by an EMU student-athlete since Becky Reenders posted 25 put-a-ways at Kent State University, Nov. 10, 2007. Versus defending West Division Champion Western Michigan, Oct. 3, Leite turned in seven kills and three block assists for a total of 8.5 points.


East Division Player of the Week

Megan Griffin, Miami, Jr., MH, Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton

Was dominant against two of the top teams in the MAC East Division. Hit .643 for the entire weekend. That included a .857 hitting percentage against Kent state on Friday. Followed that up with a very good .429 hitting percentage on Sunday against Ohio. Also recorded three services aces on the weekend. She had two key assists against Ohio and five blocks (one solo) against Kent State.



Additional Nominees

Kara Smith, Akron, Jr., Setter, Secor, Ill./El Paso-Gridley

Akron junior setter Kara Smith posted 77 assists on the weekend. A versatile player, Smith added 15 digs, five kills and a service ace.


Alisha Green, Ball State, Jr., MB, Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest H.S.

Utilizing a team-best .438 (16-2-32) attack percentage last weekend, junior Alisha Green helped guide the Cardinals to a pair of wins and into a tie for first place in the Mid-American Conference West Division. Green hit over .420 in both of BSU’s matches last week, going .462 (7-1-13) at Toledo and .421 (9-1-19) at Buffalo. In addition, she tied for team-high honors with seven total blocks for a 1.00 blocks-per-set average. Of her seven blocks, three were solo stuffs.


Meghan Mohr, Bowling Green, Sr., Right-Side/Setter, Elida, Ohio/Elida

Mohr led the Falcons in both Mid-American East Division wins this weekend with two double-digit kill performances, including her fifth double-double of the season. On the week Mohr terminated a team high 33 kills averaging 3.30 kills per set, a team best 37.5 points, 15 digs, 10 assists, five blocks and two service aces. She led the Falcons to their first win over Ohio in 12 match-ups with 15 kills. Mohr came right back against Kent State posting 18 kills with a .314 hitting percentage and 10 digs, recording her fifth double-double of the season.


Stephanie Budde, Central Michigan, Jr., Setter, Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy

Stephanie Budde put together an outstanding performance as she tallied 52 assists in CMU's upset of Western Michigan. She totaled 79 assists on the MAC weekend to go with three kills, 15 digs and three blocks.


Lauren Jones, Kent State, So., OH, Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood

Jones registered a team-high 31 kills (3.875 per set) while hitting .315 with two service aces (0.25 per set), 18 digs (2.25 per set) and 33.5 points (4.19 points per set) last weekend. Jones hit .348 and registered a double-double with 19 kills and 14 digs in the Flashes 3-2 loss to Bowling Green (10/4). She totaled 12 kills with one service ace in KSU’s 3-0 loss to Miami (10/3).



Allison McGlaughlin, Northern Illinois, Fr., OH, Morton, Ill./Morton

McGlaughlin registered her first collegiate double-double against Eastern Michigan with a season-high 19 kills and 16 digs. She also helped the Huskies take down Central Michigan in three sets with her 12 kills, six digs and three aces as she totaled 35 points, averaged 3.88 kills per set and 2.75 digs a set for the weekend. McGlaughlin has now tallied double-digit kills in 10 of 18 matches for NIU.


Meghan Simons, Ohio, Jr., MB, Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll

Already among the conference leaders in hitting percentage heading into the weekend, Simons recorded 20 kills and only six errors on 36 swings to hit a team-best .389 over the course of the Bobcats' two matches. Simons' average of 2.50 kills per set last weekend was nearly half a kill per frame better than her season average heading into the two contests. She matched her career high with 13 kills against Bowling Green on Friday night, committing only three errors to hit .476 versus the Falcons. She also had four blocks against BGSU en route to a 15.0-point night.


Stephanie Kersting, Toledo, Jr., OH, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh

Junior OH Stephanie Kersting led the Rockets in both matches this week and averaged 3.43 kills per set and posted a .194 hitting mark.


Katie Eberling, Western Michigan, Jr., OH, Palos Hills, Ill./Amos Alonzo Stagg

Katie Eberling averaged 2.38 kills and 3.38 digs per set in a pair of MAC road matches last week. She had her best match of the week in a victory at Eastern Michigan with 10 kills on a .417 attack percentage and a season-high 19 digs. It marked her fifth double-double of the season and the 36th of her career, which tied the WMU career record.
