MAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Pat Sovacool, Miami, Senior

Lakewood, Ohio (St. Ignatius) 

Dayton 5K Challenge (5K)

Time: 15:22    

Sovacool won his second-straight Dayton 5K Challenge on Saturday, crossing the finish line in 15:22. The Lakewood, Ohio native led the RedHawks to their sixth-straight team crown at the 5K Challenge. The win also marks Sovacool's third-straight top-3 finish and fourth-straight top-10 finish at the event.

 

MAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

Laura Neufarth, Miami, Junior

Centerville, Ohio (Centerville)          

Dayton 5K Challenge (5K)      

Time: 18:15    

Neufarth won her second-straight Dayton 5K Challenge title with a winning time of 18:15, five seconds faster than her winning time a year ago and 12 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Neufarth led the RedHawks to their second-straight team title as well. 

 


Other Men's Nominees

Christopher Moody, Bowling Green, Sophomore, Davidsonville, Md. (South River)  

Toledo Dual (5K)

Time: 15:59    

Moody ran a 15:59 this past Friday against arch-rival Toledo to take first for the first time in his collegiate career. The Davidsonville, Md. native was competing in just his sixth career collegiate event.     

 

Sammy Kiprotich, Central Michigan, Sophomore, Eldoret, Kenya (Tambach)

Jeff Drenth Memorial (5K)     

Time: 15:37    

Kiprotich finished third at the Jeff Drenth Memorial with a time of 15:37.  Also competing in the meet was Michigan State.  Kiprotich was four seconds behind the meet winner.         

 

Curtis Vollmar, Eastern Michigan, Junior, Grand Blanc, Mich. (Grand Blanc)

Michigan Open (10K)

Time: 33:18:00           

Vollmar led the Eagles in the season opener versus Michigan. He finished the 10K race in a time of 33:18, to finish eighth.     

 

John Minen, Kent State, Sophomore, Medina, Ohio (Highland)

Short Course Open (6K)

Time: 19:10.0

Minen placed third overall in the season-opening meet for the Golden Flashes.        

 


Other Women's Nominees
Kara Butler, Bowling Green, Senior, Okemos, Mich. (Okemos)           

Toledo Dual (3K)

Time: 10:29    

Butler won her first collegiate race this past Friday against arch-rival Toledo. The senior from Okemos, Mich. ran a 10:29 to lead the Falcons to a 22 to 34 victory. The win gave the Falcons their fifth-straight individual race winner over the Rockets.

 

Amanda Rudert, Central Michigan, Senior, Mount Pleasant, Mich. (Mount Pleasant)          

Jeff Drenth Memorial (5K)

Time: 18:53.4 

Rudert was the top Chippewa at the Jeff Drenth Memorial.  She finished sixth with a time of 18:53.4.  The meet was not scored.

 

Kassandra Meholick, Kent State, Sophomore, New Cumberland, Pa. (Cedar Cliff)

Short Course Open (4K)

Time: 14:59.2 

Meholick won the women’s 4,000 meter race with a time of 14:59.23. She finished more than five seconds ahead of the second place finisher, her teammate Audrey Maheu, a freshman who was competing in her first collegiate cross country meet.

 

Meghan Ginter, Northern Illinois, Senior, Aurora, Ill. (Waubonsie Valley)    

Illinois Challenge (4K)

Time: 15:54    

Ginter placed first for the Huskies and 21st overall in a field that included runners from Illinois and Illinois State.
