MAC Announces Weekly Gymnastics Awards

Co-Gymnast of the Week:


Queenita Gamble
Sophomore ● Racine, WI

Sophomore Queenita Gamble really stepped up for her team Sunday afternoon. It was a day for career bestes as she opened the meet up on vault where she landed a 9.550 tying her career best. Next on the beam she won the event with a 9.775 also a new career best. Finally she took to the floor where she finished tied for 2nd behind her teammate Jacque Bernhardt. She scored a 9.775 also setting a new career best.


Courtney Lesson
Western Michigan
Senior● Troy, N.Y./Lansingburgh

Courtney Lesson led the way as Western Michigan posted its highest team total of the year (193.400) and handed Bowling Green its first MAC loss of the season. Lesson was crowned the all-around champion in her second-straight meet, totaling a career and team season-high 39.025. She placed first on vault in her third consecutive meet, putting up her second best total of the year with a 9.875. She also had scores of 9.725 on the bars and floor and took second on the balance beam with a 9.700. She finished in the top five in all four events.

Rachel Stuck, Kent State
Stuck notched a season-high on vault (9.700) to finish third overall and scored 9.750 on floor to place fourth during the Golden Flashes 194.625 to 192.175 victory over the Central Michigan University Chippewas.

Andrea de la Garza, Central Michigan
De la Garza won the all-around and floor against Kent State. This is the second straight week de la Garza was CMU's top all-arounder.




Specialist of the Week:


Jenna D'Alie
Central Michigan
Senior ● Rochester, Wis./William Horlick HS

D'Alie posted a career-high 9.875 on bars to win the event in the meet with Kent State. D'Alie bested her previous career-best of 9.725. Her mark is the third-best individual mark this season in the MAC.

Jacque Bernhardt, Bowling Green
Senior Jacque Bernhardt competed on two events for the Falcons Sunday afternoon. Her first event was the vault where she flipped to a 9.800 and a second place finish. Her score of a 9.800 is her third highest on the season. She then competed on the floor where she posted her second highest season score at 9.825, winning her the event.


Kristine Garbarino, Western Michigan
Kristine Garbarino helped Western Michigan record its highest team total (193.400) of the season and hand Bowling Green its first MAC loss of the season, placing first on the uneven bars with a career-high 9.750. It was Garbarino's only event of the afternoon. Competing only on the bars this season, it was just her third outing of the entire season. The 9.750 was the second highest score recorded by a Bronco on the bars this year. Garbarino's previous career high was a 9.625.



Laci Hendress, Kent State
Against Central Michigan University on Saturday (2/23), Hendress scored a 9.775 on beam to finish second overall and 9.725 on bars as the Golden Flashes scored a 194.625 to 192.175 victory over the Chippewas
