Northern Illinois senior Alex Friesen went 4-0 over the weekend, as the Huskies split their matches against Bradley (W, 6-1) on Saturday, and Illinois State (L, 4-3) on Sunday. In all, Friesen lost just 11 games in four matches. Against Bradley, Friesen teamed with junior Jimmy Chu to defeat Richard Robertson and Michel Macara, 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Friesen later upended Evgeny Samolylov at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Friesen came back on Sunday afternoon against Illinois State for another pair of victories teaming with Chu for the 8-4 win over Nuno Jacinto and Xavier Riart-Ferrer at No. 2 doubles. Friesen would beat Jacinto again at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Chris Clark, Toledo
Clark went 6-0 the weekend in three matches. He teamed up with Nutthavit Likitkumchorn to beat Daytons No. 2 team of Michael Koscielski and Antonio Rodriguez 8-3. Clark then took on Daytons Sherman at No. 2 singles and beat him 6-1, 6-2. He paired with Sven Burus against Duquesne to beat Mark Maciuch and Alex Mast, 8-5, while against IUPUI they defeated EJ Dechow and Jorge Yunes with an 8-2 score. In singes, Clark defeated Michael Ortega of Duquesne, 6-2, 6-1, then beat IUPUIs Gregory Sosa in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) 6-0. Clark is now 13-10 in singles and 10-8 in doubles this year.
Marcello Mazzetto , Buffalo
Mazzetto moved to the number one spot on the singles ladder and won both His matches over the weekend. Mazzetto got the clinching point in UB's 6-1 Win over Niagara as he defeated Walter Garcia, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, handing Garcia His first loss during the spring season. Against St. Bonaventure, Mazzetto was one of three singles players to score a win, defeating Leo Mochizuki, 6-0,
7-5. Mazzetto is 9-5 overall in singles play this season and 6-1 in dual matches.
