Women’s Tennis Player of the Week:
Junior ● Dublin, Ohio (Bishop Watterson)
Jakupcin won at both #1 singles and #1 doubles as the Falcons opened the dual-match schedule with a 5-2 win at Butler. She teamed with freshman Christine Chiricosta for the doubles win. The singles win came in her first career outing at the #1 flight in dual-match play.
Amy Sherlock, Akron
Sherlock was responsible for both of Akron's points in its 5-2 loss to Xavier on Sunday. She teamed with freshman Carolina Castro Cota to scored an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles and then tallied a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 singles position.
Jennifer Pollack, Ball State
Pollack opened the 2008 seaon with a 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Dayton. Pollack then posted a 6-3, 6-1n victory at No. 3 singles helping the Cardinals to an 6-1 win over Dayton.
Aleksandra Stankovic, Eastern Michigan
Stankovic def. Marie Caujolle (ISU) 6-1, 6-0 and in #2 doubles Bestehorn and Stankovic def. Masiyazi and Meghoufel (ISU) 8-6. The Doubles win helped put the Eagles up 1-0 going into singles where she won her match and the Eagles beat the Sycamores 4-3.
Anastasia Dracheva, Miami University
Dracheva provided Miami's lone point in a 6-1 loss at No. 25 Indiana in her first dual match as a RedHawk and doing so in the top flight at No. 1 singles. After dropping the first set, 2-6, Dracheva came back to defeat IU's Alba Berdala in the second set 6-2 and went on to capture the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-5) to give Miami its lone point of the match.
Noriko Saruta, Western Michigan
Senior Noriko Saruta was instrumental in the Broncos road victory over Illinois of the Big Ten on Monday. Saruta and Parekh won their clinching doubles match, 9-7, and Saruta clinched the match with her victory at No. 3.
