Eddie Kipchoge and Pat Sovacool Share MAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week Honor

Eddie Kipchoge

Bowling Green

Kipchoge competed at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. Saturday against some of the hardest competition in the nation, with nine of the men's teams ranked by the USTFCCCA as well as ten of the top 50 individuals from the NCAA Championships last fall.

He came in 34th place in a time of 25:35, the sixth best runner in the Great Lakes Region at the meet and number one Falcon at the meet.


Pat Sovacool

Miami
So. ? (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius)

Pacing Miami at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational, Sovacool placed sixth overall and helped the RedHawks finish third in a 24-team field. Sovacool was the top Miami finisher for the first time in his career at the 8K Penn State Golf Course, clocking in with a sixth-place time of 26:20. It was the third consecutive top-six individual finish for Sovacool after finishing second at the Flyer 5K Challenge (Sept. 2) and third at the Miami Invitational (Sept. 9). Sovacool's third-place showing helped Miami finish ahead of conference rival Kent State (fourth), Pittsburgh (fifth) from the BIG EAST, Maryland (seventh) from the Atlantic Coast Conference and area rival Dayton (eighth) in the team standings.

Dan ran an aggressive race in very muddy conditions.  Dan closed the early gap set by teammate, Jesse Mang, and eventually took the lead and won his first meet of the season.  He played an important role in leading the team to a narrow margin of victory over Cornell.

Seth Hutchinson

Kent State

Seth Hutchinson continued his solid senior running campaign finishing 7th out of 295 student-athletes in Spiked Shoe Invitational (26:21.20).  Hutchinson finished first for the Flashes for the second week in a row, leading them to a fourth place finish overall at out of 24 teams at the event.


Jeff Powers

Central Michigan
Sr. ? (Franklin, Ind. /Franklin)

Powers won the Nike Race of Champions for the second collegiate cross country race victory of his career.  Powers finished the 8K course in 26:20.

Brock Schwarz

Ohio

Fr. (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance)

 

Brock Schwarz placed fourth out of 63 at the Ohio Invitational Saturday with a time of 27:57.30 in the 8K run, which gave Schwarz the best finish on the Bobcats’ team. His effort was more than 25 seconds better than any other Bobcat runner. Brian was one of two Bobcats who finished in the top 10.
