MAC Wrestler of the Week
Dustin Kilgore, Kent State-Junior, Berea, Ohio (Berea High School)
Kent State junior Dustin Kilgore defeated No. 1 Cam Simaz of Cornell 10-9 in the 197-pound championship match of the Body Bar Invitational last Saturday. Kilgore went 4-0 on the day, beginning with a 19-2 technical fall over Clarion's Clint Podish in 3:56. In the opening period of the quarterfinals, Kilgore pinned Binghamton's Matt Berretta. Kilgore then scored an 11-2 major decision over Buffalo's Josh Peters in the semifinals, before facing Simaz. Kilgore is 13-0 on the year with five major decisions, three technical falls and one pin.
Scotti Sentes, Central Michigan-- Junior, Fort Myers, Fla. (Riverdale High School)
Central Michigan junior Scotti Sentes won the 133-pound title at the Body Bar Invitational last weekend and won all five of his matches last week by either pin or major decision. In the Chippewas' season opening dual at No. 1 Cornell, Sentes scored a 9-1 major decision over Joe Stanzione. The following day in the Body Bar, Sentes pinned his first two opponents in the first period, posted a 9-0 major decision over Army's Jordan Thome in the semis and defeated Stanzione again by major decision, 11-3, in the finals. Sentes, ranked sixth nationally in last week's InterMat rankings, is 5-0 overall this season.
Mark Lewandowski, Buffalo-Sophomore, Depew, N.Y. (Lancaster High School)
Buffalo sophomore Mark Lewandowski finished second at the Body Bar Invitational Saturday in the 157-pound bracket. The tournament, hosted by #1 ranked Cornell, featured eleven teams. Lewandowski came out strong and won his first three matches over Ansom Worrell of Drexel (10-5), Anthony Priore of Sacred Heart (5-3) and Eric Cubberly of MAC rival Central Michigan, 3-2. His only defeat came in the finals, a loss to James Fleming of Clarion. Lewandowski, a business major, is now tied for the team lead in wins this season, with 11, including a team-leading 2-0 record in dual meets.
Wes Schroeder, Eastern Michigan-Junior, Manitou Beach, Mich. (Addison High School)
Eastern Michigan junior Wes Schroeder went 3-0 in the 285 lb. weight class at the Journeymen Sprawl & Brawl on Nov. 21, in Binghamton, N.Y. Schroeder defeated Paul Schweighardt of Sacred Heart by a 6-0 decision, won by forfeit in Eastern Michigan's-Harvard dual and then recorded one of two Eastern Michigan wins against Binghamton by beating Daniel Bittner by a 3-1 decision. The Eagles won two of the three duals, dominating Sacred Heart, 42-0, before grueling out a, 24-22, victory over Harvard. The lone loss came against a Binghamton squad, which received ranking votes in the latest NWCA/USA Today national poll, 29-6. Schroeder is now 4-2 on the season.
