INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- For the second straight year, Miami's NCAA Tennis experience will take place at Northwestern. The RedHawks learned Tuesday afternoon that they will open tournament play on Friday, May 14 against the 12-time Big Ten Champion and No. 6 overall seeded Wildcats (21-6).

A year ago, in its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, Miami hung tough before falling 4-0 to Northwestern, then ranked No. 1 in the country.

The opening-round match will take place at 10 a.m. at the outdoor Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston. Should the RedHawks advance to the second round, they will face either Illinois (15-9) or Nebraska (21-5) at noon the following day, Saturday, May 15.

"I am quite pleased with the draw," Interim Head Coach Ricardo Rosas said. "Northwestern is a good team, but we have now been there and know what to expect. I think we will be more prepared to face them with a year of NCAA Tournament experience under our belts."

Miami stands 18-6 this year and has won nine straight matches, including three at the MAC Championship last weekend. In the final on Sunday, the RedHawks rallied to win the doubles point, then took convincing wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 for their second straight title.

Northwestern is coming off its 12 straight Big Ten Tournament Championship after a sweep of Michigan on Sunday. The Wildcats, 9-1 during the Big Ten season, also won its second consecutive ITA National Indoor Team Championship, a tournament which annually assembles the nation's top 16 teams for a single-elimination dual tournament.

The team that advances through the first two rounds moves on to the round of 16 at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., where the remainder of the NCAA Championships will be played out on both the men's and women's sides.
