MAC Announces Softball Players and Pitchers of the Week

West Division Player of the Week
Lexi Jager, Western Michigan, Jr., Centerfield, Kalamazoo, Mich./Comstock
Lexi Jager opened the season with a 3-for-3 performance against Ole Miss, hitting home runs in back-to-back at bats. The two home run performance tied the WMU single-game record, a feat she had accomplished last season against Ohio in the MAC Tournament. Jager had three multi-hit games at the Kajikawa Classic with two more 2-for-3 performances against Kentucky and No. 11 California. Jager had a double and a single in of those contests. She led the team with seven runs scored and four of her seven hits went for extra bases, giving her a 1.071 slugging percentage.

West Division Pitcher of the Week
Meghan Thomas, Western Michigan, Sr., Kalamazoo, Mich/Comstock

Meghan Thomas picked up the Broncos lone win in the circle against Ole Miss to open the 2010 Kajikawa Classic. She earned the win, the 18th of her career, in her season debut. She was the only pitcher in the MAC West to earn a win during the opening week and one of only two in the entire conference to post a victory.

East Division Player of the Week
Lauren Grimes, Kent State, Fr., Outfielder, Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge

Grimes played and started in four games in left field, recording at least one hit in each game...she walked twice on the weekend and carried a .647 on-base percentage... In her first collegiate start, Grimes went 3-for-4 against Loyola Marymount, including a bottom of the seventh home run to send the game into extra innings...she was the only KSU freshman to start this past weekend.

East Division Pitcher of the Week
Melissa Bonner, Ohio, Jr., Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings Mills

Bonner allowed just three earned runs in 12 innings while striking out 10 with a team-low 2.25 ERA over the weekend at the Kajikawa Classic. The junior fanned five in 5.1 innings against Southern Utah. She followed it up with a solid outing against North Dakota State in which she struck out five while walking one and allowing no earned runs in 6.2 innings against North Dakota State, currently receiving votes in the preseason polls.

Player of the Week Additional Nominees
Andrea Arney, Bowling Green, Fr., Infielder, Navarre, Ohio/Fairless

Andrea Arney was BGSU's offensive catalyst at the Sunshine State Classic. Arney recorded her first hit of her career as a Falcon in the BGSU's season opener against No. 19/23 Florida State at the Sunshine State Classic. In the Falcon's second game of the tournament against Southern Mississippi, Arney recorded two hits, one run and one RBI. In the Falcon win over Iona College, Arney recorded one of the Falcon's four runs of the game. In total, Arney boasted three hits, two runs, one RBI and eight putouts at the Sunshine State Classic. She racked up an impressive .375 batting average and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Emily Wethington, Ohio, Jr., Pitcher/Utility, New Palestine, Ind./Scecina Memoria
Wethington helped lead Ohio over the weekend at the Kajikawa Classic with a homer and two RBI and 10 strikeouts in the pitching circle. The junior hit a two-run homer to help pace Ohio against Ole Miss and also went 1-for-2 with a single, walk and a run scored against No. 1 Washington. In the circle, she tallied 10 strikeouts in 13 innings, while tossing complete games in both her appearances.

Dani Parrish, Northern Illinois, So., Outfielder, Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield
Parrish finished the weekend with a .333 batting average and a .600 slugging percentages. In 15 at bats she totaled 5 hits, 3 RBI's, 1 run and recorded a double and a homerun.
