Women’s Golfer of the Week

Kristen Hill, Akron, Fr., Weston, Fla./Cypresss Bay HS

Hill shot a two-under par-70, the lowest round among the 74-player field, to finish with a two-day score of 144 (74-70) en route to her first collegiate win at the Cardinal Classic Tuesday. Hill edged Simone DeSouza from California (Pa.) in a one-hole playoff to claim the individual title and lead the Zips to a second-place finish at The Players Club.

Kristtini Cain, Ball State, Fr., Marion, Ind./Marion

Kristtini Cain finished third in Ball State's own Cardinal Classic and helped the Cardinals to the team title...Ball State won the 13-team event, which included MAC opponents Akron, Ohio, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green. Cain managed a 73-72 and finished third, one stroke out of the medalist title behind the 144's of Kristen Hill of Akron and Simone DeSouza of California of Pennsylvania.


Megan Bader, Bowling Green, So., Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic

Megan Bader continued her strong fall campaign, finishing in a tie for 21st at the Cardinal Classic with a 36-hole score of 155 (+11). She helped the Falcons finish 11th in the field.


Darby Peters, Eastern Michigan, So., Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion

Sophomore Darby Peters fired a final round 75 to finish in a tie for 15th place with a 228 (76-77-75) Sunday afternoon at the Mary Fossum Invitational on the par-72, 6,316-yard Forest Akers West Course, Sept. 20-21. Peters was the Eagles’ most consistent golfer over the weekend, recording rounds of 76, 77 and 75. The round of 228 was one shot off her career-low of 228 set last year at the Shootout at the Legends, Oct. 7-8, 2007. In four rounds this fall, Peters holds the team’s second-lowest scoring average and the Mid-American Conference’s third-lowest average at 76.5 stokes.


Kim Hunley, Northern Illinois, Jr., Aurora, Ill/West Aurora

Was the top finisher for the Huskies in the event.


Lauren Bergman, Ohio, Jr., Blacklick Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln

Fired a career-best 76 in the second round ... Her two-round total of 154 was also a career best ... Earned the second top-20 finish of her career.


Elise Swartout, Western Michigan, Jr., Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer HS

Elise Swartout has been WMU's individual medalist in each of the Broncos' two tournaments to open the fall season. She has a pair of top-20 finishes, including one top-10 finish.
