CLEVELAND -- The Mid-American Conference announced today its 2008 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team. The team was voted on by the league’s Faculty Athletic Representatives from among a list of student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. This year’s squad includes 23 honorees due to ties.
This year’s Academic All-MAC squad is highlighted by four repeat honorees from 2007 in Carrie Hinners (Buffalo), Mary Veith (Buffalo), Kelly McClure (Central Michigan), Kristina Bolterstein (Miami) and Meghan Ginter (Northern Illinois). Being honored for the third consecutive year was Carime Reinhart (Ohio).
MAC Champion Akron had a team high four student-athletes on this year’s team in Larisa Arcip, Jessica Miller-Hafner, Niesha Kelly and Valerie Wert. Ball State had three members in Cara Collins, Ali Bishel and Amanda Barnhart.
Joining Hinners and Veith from Buffalo was Patrice Coney, while Rebekah Hollander joined Bolterstein from Miami. Central Michigan and Ohio each added two more to the squad in Elizabeth Carpenter (Central Michigan), Amanda Rudert (Central Michigan), Emily Amendola (Ohio) and Jessie Tanner (Ohio).
Kent State received two honorees in Andrea Bryson and Anne Zakelj. Rounding out the team are Melissa Green (Eastern Michigan) and Jennifer Roberts (Western Michigan).
To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
