MAC Announces Final Men's Tennis Player of the Week Winner

Alex Birchmeier ? Western Michigan

Junior - Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow HS

Birchmeier won at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles against Toledo to help Western Michigan cap an undefeated season in the Mid-American Conference. Birchmeier and Bryan Norville came back from 6-4 down to win 8-6 over the Rockets at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point. With three different partners this season, Birchmeier has compiled a 32-8 mark in doubles for the Brown & Gold. Birchmeier won 6-4, 6-3 over Josh Moran to win the deciding point in singles and claim his 52nd overall win of the season.



Bret Berryman ? Ball State

Freshman  - Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South

Berryman helped the Cardinals to a 2-1 record last week with 6-1 wins over league opponents IPFW and Northern Illinois.  In singles the true freshman posted a 3-0 record.  Berryman started the week off with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Bruno Echer of Indiana State at No. 4.  Berryman turnaround the next day and tallied a 6-2, 7-6 (0) win over IPFW's Nathan Jones at No. 3.  Berryman closed out the weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois' Jimmy Chu.  The freshman ended the season 5-0 in league play.


Octavian Stane  - Buffalo

Sophomore - Toronto, Ontario/Leaside

Stane won his doubles and singles matches in UB's 5-2 loss to Toledo to close out the regular season. He paired with freshman Kirill Kolomytes for an 8-3 win over Keith Moran and Jared Miller in the number two doubles match. He also downed Travis Curran in a super-tiebreaker in the sixth singles match, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (12-10).


Adam Ford ? Northern Illinois

Junior - Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central

Ford was a perfect 3-0 in singles competition including a 2-0 record in MAC competition this week as he defeated Jonathan Sutjaidi of Chicago State 6-0, 6-3 in NIU’s 6-0 victory.  On Friday Ford defeated Nathan Jones of IPFW 6-0, 6-0 and on Saturday Ford picked up a win over Ball State’s Jarrod Epkey by a score of 6-3,6-2.
