MAC Announces Men's Tennis Player of the Week

MAC MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Adam Ford ? Northern Illinois

Junior - Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central

Ford was a large part of the Huskies 3-1 Florida road trip as he went a perfect 4-0 in singles matches and 2-2 in doubles over spring break.  In the first match of the trip Ford defeated Cosmin Chiujdea of NJIT 6-3, 6-4.   Ford then dispatched Jonathan Hanna of Florida Tech in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.  In his third match of the week Ford helped NIU defeat Palm Beach State with yet another straight set victory over Frankie Moulton 6-1. 6-1.  Ford picked up the only point for the Huskies as he defeated Mark Rutherford of Marquette 6-4, 6-1.

Aaron Phillips ? Ball State

Junior -  Effingham, Ill./Saint Anthony

Phillips recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory over UNLV's Brett Hunter at No. 2 singles.  With the win Ball State nearly defeated UNLV but lost its match 4-3.

 

Alex Birchmeier ? Western Michigan

Junior - Midland, Mich./Dow HS

Birchmeier helped Western Michigan roll past Wright State, 7-0, on Saturday. Birchmeier and his partner Bryan Norville, the No. 38 doubles team in the country, fought back from a 6-3 deficit to win 8-7 (6) at No. 1 doubles to open the match. Birchmeier then dominated at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. With his 38th and 39th wins of the season, Birchmeier increased his career total to 118 victories.
