East Division Offensive Player of the Week
Michele Metzler, Miami, Sr., MH, Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg
Finished second on team with 24 kills, an average of 3.43 kills per set. She was easily the team leader with a .469 hitting percentage this weekend. Also provided scores via her block attacks. She had seven blocks on the weekend (one solo six assists) for an average of 1.00 block per set. Recorded 11 kills in match against Ball State on Friday. Followed that up with 13 kills in win over Toledo on Saturday. Only made one attack error the entire weekend.
West Division Offensive Player of the Week
Kaitlyn Schultz, Central Michigan, Jr., MB, Highland, Mich./Milford
Kaitlyn Schultz was beyond dominant last weekend, averaging 4.43 kills per set and hit an eye-popping .600 against Akron and Buffalo. She put up 5.0 points per set, adding a pair of aces and four blocks. She finished with 17 kills and hit .571 against Akron with a pair of aces and a block and added 14 kills in just 22 swings with no errors (.636) and three blocks against Buffalo.
East Division Defensive Player of the Week
Madison Hardy, Miami, Fr., OH/DS, Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy
Madison led the team with 36 digs on the weekend, an average of an impressive 5.14 digs per set. Against Ball State on Friday, she recorded 10 digs, taking over as libero during the third set. Serving as libero for the entire match against Toledo on Friday, she recorded a career-high 26 digs, the most for any RedHawk since Melissa Zenz had 29 against Northern Illinois on Nov. 21, 2008. Hardy also made only three reception errors all weekend for a reception percentage of .952, and contributed offensively with three assists.
West Division Defensive Player of the Week
Lena Oliver, Western Michigan, Fr., L, Battle Creek, Mich./St. Philip Catholic Central
Lena Oliver led Western Michigan to a 3-0 week with wins over defending Big East champion Notre Dame at home and at MAC East leader Ohio and Kent State. Oliver led the Broncos with 55 digs (5.50 digs per set) and successfully passed 89 serves during the week. Oliver's play in the back line didn't allow an opponent to hit over .200 as WMU limited its opponents to .157 attacking during the course of the week. Oliver started the week with 23 digs and career-high five assists against the Fighting Irish. On the road, she led all players with 15 digs at Ohio and 17 digs at Kent State.
Additional Nominees for Offensive Player of the Week
Alex Cocklin, Akron, Fr., OH, Rochester, Mich. (Marian)
Freshman Alex Cocklin led UA on the offensive front last weekend against Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Totaling 29 kills in nine sets played, Cocklin finished the weekend with a .245 hitting percentage. Cocklin also added 14 digs and three blocks.
Whitney Heeres, Ball State, Fr., OH, Flushing, Mich./Flushing Senior
Ball State freshman outside hitter Whitney Heeres turned in one of the best weekend's of her career, racking up 32 kills and hitting .439 in BSU's two three-set sweeps. In Friday's sweep of Miami, Heeres smashed a match-high 16 kills on 36 swings with no errors for a .444 hitting percentage. She followed with a match-best 16 kills at Bowling Green, while hitting .433 (16-3-30) in the contest. She also tallied a career-high four blocks (one solo and three assists) in the win over the Falcons.
Danielle Tonyan, Bowling Green, Fr., RS, McHenry, Ill./McHenry
Danielle Tonyan led Bowling Green in kills on the week and helped the Falcons to a mid-week sweep of Cleveland State, one of the best teams in the Horizon League. Tonyan had 11 kills and three blocks, hitting .292, as BGSU defeated Cleveland State 26-24, 25-19, 25-22 Tuesday. In a four-set loss to Toledo Friday night, she led team with 14 kills and hit .263, adding a pair of blocks. She completed the weekend with a team-high 10 kills and a block in a three-set loss to Ball State.
Jenn Swartz, Eastern Michigan, Sr., MB, Canton, Mich.-Westland John Glenn
Senior Jenn Swartz led the Eagles offensively, averaging 3.00 kills 0.22 blocks and 3.33 points per set while hitting .333 (27-7-60). In the team's 20th victory of the season, Swatzs notched a team-best 14 put-a-ways on 27 swings to go along with four digs, a block and a service ace. She followed it up with a 13 kill performance against MAC East Division co-leader Akron.
Meredith Paskert, Kent State, So., MB, Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights
Paskert led Kent State's offense in both matches last weekend, totaling a career-high 24 kills against Northern Illinois Friday (Oct. 22) and tying for the team lead with 10 kills against Western Michigan (Oct. 23). She ranks second on the team in kills with 268 (2.85 per set) and has already surpassed the 267 kills she recorded as a freshman in 2009.
Sarah Angelos, Northern Illinois, Fr., MB, Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan
Leading the Huskies in efficiency, freshman middle blocker Sarah Angelos (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) was very effective in NIU's 2-0 road weekend in conference play as she hit a proficient .378 with 23 kills (2.56/set) ... Angelos reached double figures in both matches, marking the fourth and fifth times she has done so this season ... Angelos tied a season-high with 12 kills in a five-set win at Kent State, hitting .308 ... In a four-set win at Ohio, Angelos posted 11 kills and a robust .474 hitting percentage to help NIU gather its first win over the Bobcats since 2001.
Michelle Jantsch, Ohio, Sr., S, Mission Hills, Kansas
Hit 353 for the weekend, tops on the team ... hit .500 against WMU with five kills ... Continued to lead the team in assists with 42 vs. WMU and 27 against NIU ... Also accumulated 15 digs and four blocks from the setter position ... Fourth in the league with 884 assists, averaged 9.9 assists per set this weekend.
Lauren Rafdal, Toledo, Fr., OH, Westfield, IN/Brebeuf Jesuit
Freshman OH Lauren Rafdal led Toledo with 3.75 kills per set to go along with a .265 ATK% and 3.50 digs per set last weekend. Rafdal spearheaded the Rocket attack against Bowling Green on Friday with a season-high 17 kills to go along with a .341 attack percentage. She also tallied a season-high 13 digs and three service aces. Rafdal followed that up by leading UT with 13 kills in a 3-1 loss at Miami on Saturday. She also registered another season best with 15 digs against the RedHawks.
Sam Viox, Western Michigan, Jr., S, Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy
Junior setter Sam Viox led the Broncos to three wins during the week to increase Western Michigan's winning streak to six in a row. The Broncos started with a mid-week home win over defending Big East champion Notre Dame, 3-1, and then went on the road to earn 3-0 sweeps at preseason MAC East favorite and current MAC East leader Ohio and Kent State. The sweep at Ohio was the first for the Broncos in 20 years and the third consecutive regular season win over the Bobcats. Viox averaged 11.60 assists per set, while hitting .368 with 10 kills during the week. Defensively, she had 3.50 digs per set and added four blocks. She started the week with a career-high .545 attack percentage and career-high nine points in the win over the Fighting Irish. She finished with seven kills, 46 assists, season-high 18 digs, two blocks and one ace. Viox started the road trip at Ohio with 33 assists, 11 digs and one kill and then led WMU to a .317 attack percentage with 37 assists, six digs, two kills and two blocks at Kent State. Viox finished the week with 2,052 career assists, making her the 10th Bronco to surpass the 2,000-assist milestone.

Chelsea Harvey, Akron, So., L, Stow, Ohio/Stow
Sophomore libero Chelsea Harvey once again led UA on the defensive front last weekend totaling 39 digs on 37 attempts. Averaging 4.33 digs per set, Harvey had only two reception errors in nine sets played.
Ashley Dunn, Bowling Green, Fr., L, Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green
Ashley Dunn averaged 5.00 digs per set as Bowling Green went 1-2 on the week. Her dig total was the match-high in all three contests during the week. Dunn had a match-high 13 digs to go with seven assists and an ace as the Falcons handed Cleveland State, which entered the match with a 16-2 record, its first three-set loss of the year. She followed that up with a match-high 22 digs, to go with two assists and another ace, in a four-set loss to Toledo. Finally, she had 15 digs in a three-set loss to Ball State.
Haley Stein, Eastern Michigan, Jr., MB, Carleton, Mich.-Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central
Junior libero Haley Stein had another stellar weekend defensively, recording 5.56 digs per set to go along with a 95.3 percent service reception clip. Versus Buffalo Stein notched 23 digs and followed it up with a 27 dig performance against Akron.
Kristen Barr, Kent State, Sr., L/DS, Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green
Barr posted eight digs Friday (Oct. 22) against Northern Illinois to move past Carrie Patterson (1,115; 1996-99) for fourth place on Kent State's career records list, then added five more Saturday (Oct. 23) against Western Michigan to up her total to 1,125. She has tallied a team-best 328 so far in 2010. Her career season-best total in digs is the 434 she tallied last year. Barr began 2010 with 797 digs in three seasons with the Golden Flashes, and has surpassed the likes of Nancy Winkler (956; 1988-90), Becky Neglia (963; 1995-98), Tarrin Pelton (966; 2000-03), Anne Butts (967; 2002-05), Stephanie Doran (1,062; 1998-01) and Carrie McEnery (1,068; 1997-00).
Maddie Hughes, Northern Illinois, Sr., L, St. Charles, Ill./North
Senior libero Maddie Hughes' (St. Charles, Ill./North) terrific weekend of 37 digs (4.11/set) and no reception errors in 37 attempts led NIU to a pair of road conference wins ... With 20 digs and 16 perfect receptions in a five-set win at Kent State, Hughes extended her streak of double digit digs to 11 matches ... In a four-set win at Ohio, NIU's first victory over the Bobcats since 2001, Hughes posted 17 digs to move her streak to 12, while also being flawless in 21 receptions.
Katie Post, Ohio, Jr., OH, Streamwood, Ill.
Third on the team this weekend in kills and led the team in blocks ... Second on the team with seven kills and also added seven blocks against NIU ... Had six kills and four blocks in the match with WMU ... Leads the MAC in blocks and also ranks fifth in hitting percentage and 10th in points scored.
Amber DeWeerdt, Toledo, Jr., L, Plainfield, IL
Junior Amber DeWeerdt led the Rockets with 4.75 digs per set against Bowling Green and Miami. She tallied a team-high 16 digs against the Falcons followed by 22 digs against the RedHawks.
