MAC Women's Tennis Tournament Begins Thursday

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team hosts the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships this week at Sorensen Courts beginning on Thursday at 1 p.m. with No. 8 Ball State vs. No. 9 Northern Illinois.

Regular season champion Miami (15-6, 8-0) is the first seed and Akron (18-2, 7-1) are the second seed.  The Broncos (14-10, 6-2 MAC) are the No. 3 seed, while Toledo (12-6, 5-3) is seeded fourth and Buffalo (8-8, 4-4) is seeded fifth.  Rounding out the seeding are Eastern Michigan (8-13, 2-6) as the sixth seed, Bowling Green (12-9, 2-6) as the seventh seed, Ball State (7-14, 1-7) as the eighth seed and Northern Illinois (7-12, 1-7) as the ninth seed. 

This is the first time WMU has hosted the event since winning the MAC Tournament in Kalamazoo in 2000. The Broncos won the tournament in 2006 and 2007 and they are looking to advance to the championship match for the sixth season in a row.
