MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Aleksandar Elezovic, Toledo - Junior, Belgrade, Serbia
Junior Aleksandar Elezovic picked up three singles and one doubles victory to lead the Toledo men's tennis team last week. Playing at No. 2 singles, Elezovic defeated Notre Dame's David Anderson, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (12-10). He also picked up a straight set victory over Butler's Bryce Warren, a first team all-Horizon League selection last year, and defeated Wayne State's Britton Steele in two sets as well. Elezovic teamed with Knot Likitkumchorn to earn a win at No. 1 doubles against the Warriors, and he has a 5-0 record at No. 2 singles this season.
Eduardo Pavia, Ball State - Junior, Carolina, Puerto Rico
Junior Eduardo Pavia helped the Cardinals improve to 8-3 overall over the weekend after defeating IUPUI (7-0) and Detroit Mercy (6-1). Pavia and teammate Dalton Albertin paved the way for the doubles point in the afternoon match over the Jaguars after posting an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot. Pavia then captured a three set victory 6-2, 3-6 (10-7) over Detroit's Pjotrs Necajevs improving his overall No. 1 singles record to 6-1.
Marcelo Mazzetto, Buffalo - Junior, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Junior Marcelo Mazzetto won both his singles and doubles matches in leading Buffalo past Niagara, 7-0, on Friday. Mazzetto paired with George Tibil at second doubles to down David Lemieux-Sarrasin and Brandon Gallego, 8-3. Playing second singles, Mazzetto scored a straight sets win over Matthew Kane 6-2, 6-2. Overall this season, Mazzetto is 9-5 in singles, tied for second on the team in victories and has a 6-5 doubles record, 3-2 in dual matches.
Kazuya Komada, Western Michigan - Junior, Osaka, Japan
Junior Kazuya Komada picked up the biggest win in the MAC this season when he defeated No. 38 Oklahoma State's Anton Bobytskyi, the 65th ranked singles player in the country, 6-2, 6-1. Komada also went 2-0 at No. 1 singles with a win over No. 69 Purdue's P.J. Rose 6-1, 7-5 and Butler's Chris Herron 6-1, 6-3. Komada's effort helped Western Michigan defeat the Boilermakers, 4-3, for the conference's first win against the Big Ten this season and the Broncos second victory over a nationally-ranked opponent. Komada also earned a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles over Butler, 8-4, and Bradley, 8-1, to finish the week 5-2 in four matches, including 3-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
